If Lewis is digging a trench at 8.5M to push his own agenda then Johnny needs to fire his ### and negotiate it himself ala Rhett. I don't see Johnny actually demanding Stamkos money or nothing.

I hope Johnny has enough sense then to know that that's entirely unrealistic for a player of two seasons and no leverage to ask 8, let alone 8.5 .

I believe that Johnny- through an x-men like mutation- is capable of bending steel. With that in mind, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he quits hockey all together and bends steel for a living at some factory. I hope that negotiations haven't gotten to that point... but I believe it might be the case.

If they are still over a million apart, after Treliving extended an olive branch, went there to negotiate, and by many accounts has moved somewhat (possibly over $7M now), then Gross is clueless and they must still be asking for $8M+.

If that is in fact the case, Johnny is going to be missing some games. Maybe a lot of games. He needs a new agent.

fwiw (very little I know) Winnipeggers are great people. I've never had a bad time in that city. Some great, old buildings, too, and there are some old money residential pockets ie: Wellington Crescent that are very, very impressive.
But I wouldn't really want to live there.

Based on what's been said out there by respectable in-the-know people like Friedman, this negotiation is not just between the Flames and Gaudreau. When you look at how the Kucherov negotiations are going as well, you get the sense that the teams and the players are really just the front line battle and there's a war going on between the owners and NHLPA on salaries for this type of RFA.

I'm sure many Flames fans would like Treliving to go all Kevin Lowe and just hand out whatever the player wants, but there's a lot at stake here for the NHL salary structure.

Johnny, Kucherov, etc might be missing some serious time.
