He will sign eventually because sitting out a year makes zero sense for him. I wouldn't stress about it.

It is rubbing people wrong because Gaudreau is a huge part of our offence. Without him, the wins will be tougher to come by and, in turn, the playoff hopes will also dwindle. So, him in the lineup ready to go is important!

Pretty much this. Also trading him would be a disaster and to even suggest is ridiculous.

Yeah but, whatever. As a fan maybe we should not be myopic and understand what the Flames are trying to do.
Just like how the team is bigger than this one player / contract.. The same could be said for this one season is not bigger than the next 7 or 8 that the Flames are trying to design a contender for. So we sacrifice a season to get 7 good ones where we can afford the key components? Yeah, I'm good with it.
Plus does anyone actually think this will last beyond mid November worst case?

I'm with you on most accounts. I am glad the GM isn't giving in to the player. I like the Isles idea that you sign by a certain date or sit; that would likely end a lot of posturing in future negotiations. I don't want to have this year suck though. The playoff excitement two years ago was a lot of fun. Heck, winning and the stretch run were great! I want the Flames to have a run like the red wings but I don't want to prolong it.

I think if Flames management try to grind instead of paying market the trade ask is McKinnon for Gio Cap dollars or Monahan monies, making a trade not possible.
The real deal is the balance of market, RFA status, wanting to play for Johnny. Secondly, for the Flames it realizing and acknowledging that Johnny has the skills and is not a player who will play for less then market.
There is a certain pride and a lifetime of working towards this moment for Johnny, and he needs to be acknowledged as one of the top players in the league.

My understanding listening to a few people like DUHA and Brunt is that this is Gross's M O.
Deliberately making both sides sweat and stress and worry for the good of his agency.
I wanna think this must be true but Johnny is losing a little respect here from a lot of fans including me.
Sad.

It could be worse though...listening to Bobby Mac talk about Tampa:

This is what Gross did years ago representing Leclair. They signed at the 11th hour.

If so - and if he doesn't get a contract he thinks is big enough - somewhere during the term of the contract, Johnny will change agents. Likely, his contract with the agent now doesn't allow him to do so. And, it would be pretty late in the game for that anyway.
Hopefully his parents give him some sound advice to help him along. Can't hurt that BT was there, hopefully to give him (them?) straight goods directly.

Nope. He is arbitration eligible next year and I think the Flames want to avoid that scenario. Long Term all the way.

I realize that. If the Flames only offer on the table is 7x7 or whatever they are comfortable with, I'm good with that for long term. But if they are doing that to avoid all the leverage and escalators that are available to him, then they should at least offer him a fair 1 year deal for what he and his leverage is worth now which would be about 1 yr/3.5, I'd guess, and let the risks and rewards play themselves out for both sides. It's been done before a few times, so for the Flames not to offer that is taking advantage.
7 year deal at what we say we'll pay or nothing is bad faith IMO.

2 Questions for you:
1. Have you used this "source" in the past?
2. How Reliable are they?

To me, it all boils down to this: Johnny Gaudreau is our top scorer and best player. Without him, we might as well plan for lottery picks for years to come, because there's nobody available - either through the system, by trade, or in free agency - who can provide what he provides to the team.
Give the kid his money, and get him on the ice.

The flames are less successful without Johnny Gaudreau, and if you trade him you are trading him to a team that will pay him what you won't, so in other words contributing to his "success". People really need to relax here, this stuff happens and it sucks. Enjoy the ride and just be happy when it's over. That or spend every waking moment in a state panic, whichever suits you.
