I would say tolerated, not necessarily respected by all.

So did I. But he did mention that Johnny was "junk" on the road, which I think is a poor choice of words.

Francis doesn't work for his mom (she's the editor of the National Post, not the Sun). And the guy isn't 27 any more. If he wasn't a competent professional he wouldn't have held job in the media in this city for 20 years. You may not like what he has to say or how he says it, but that has no bearing on how effectively he does his job. Most columnists have an audience (and a paycheque) because they piss of half the people who read their columns.

I would be careful before making claims like that about someone who earns their living as Francis does. I don't really like him but not prepared to say he fabricates most things. Can you back that up?

Unless he discloses his sources publically I have every right to question his legitimacy.
If the mods have an issue with me saying what I have they can PM me, ban me, delete my post or whatever else they see fit. But until you are a mod, don't act like you are one.

Pretty tired of this trope. Don't like the guy? Fine. The accusation of nepotism is laughable. His mom didn't land him radio and TV gigs. Hell, they worked for competing newspaper chains for about 15 years. Dianne Francis doesn't have that kind of pull in the industry.

It's expensive in terms of lost revenue. Like I said literally in the next part of the sentence.

What members of the media, news or sports, disclose their sources?
That's a pretty absurd thing to ask of him

Having Johnny play the whole season gives the best chance for making the playoffs and earning valuable cash for owners and experience for young players.
That's why this is such a tough negotiation, because Johnny actually holds significant leverage compared to most 10.2 (C) players, or RFAs in general. Withholding his services for a material amount of games could cost the team millions of dollars.

I just did a cursory Google search and I can't find anything regarding how much NHL teams stand to make during the Playoffs. I found this thing on Yahoo Answers, but I'm hesitant to trust it because it's six years old. Also, it's Yahoo Answers.
The reason I bring it up is because there is a constant refrain from you and a few other posters that if the Flames make the playoffs this year the amount of money they make from these playoffs alone will offset the addition money paid to Gaudreau over the course of his contract (assuming that capitulate to his $8-8.25M initial ask). However, I'm not sure that's accurate.
So, I was hoping you could provide me with any information regarding the amount of money the average NHL team makes during the playoffs.

I'm just saying as long as media sources are private, then they are free game to be questioned.

You keep trying with this argument - I'll give you credit for that - but it simply ins't true.
1) a few games missed from one player does not determine whether a team can/will make the playoffs or not - as the Flames recently experienced first hand when Giordano (by far their best player at the time) went down for the last 2 months of the season 2 years ago, and yet a severely undermanned team made the dance anyway.
2) the pain to the player is real (missed salary), while the pain to the team (potentially missing the playoffs) is not at all certain, nor is it real at the time.
3) the Flames may very well have already budgeted to not make the playoffs this year (probably have)
4) the fight over the ongoing status of RFAs and specifically type 10(2) RFAs is a far more valuable fight for the owners, then the 'cost' of potentially increasing the chance that they might not make the playoffs.
No matter how many times you claim that Johnny's holdout would cause the team pain, it does not change the fact that it really doesn't.

I can say as a 30-year veteran in the newspaper business that having a big shot parent lands you a summer job on the loading dock, or maybe as an editorial assistant. The rest is up to you. I imagine its the same kind of deal in other industries.

This is what separates a flames fan from a pure Gaudreau fan. Starting the year without 1 player vs many years with cap flexibility. 1.5 million doesn't sound like much, but at the trade deadline this can be the difference you need to bring in a impact forward. Think Pittsburgh.
