I thought it was Rhett Warrener FTW in that segment:

"Let's just call it 7 and be done with it."

I am sure he's said he thinks it gets done every time I've heard him talk about it all summer. Most people seem to feel that way.

But the entire length of the interview is about how they're currently still in a stalemate with either side yet to blink. All I was saying is that there was no new development to draw that from.
Wasn't pointing the finger at you. Just found it humorous that found its way into the title.

I'm too lazy to scroll back, but someone said yesterday that Gross's plays in the media yesterday were tantamount to the agent having been the first to "blink", and I have to agree with that sentiment. If Gross wasn't feeling pressure from wherever (Johnny, his agency, Treliving himself), I don't think he plays the media game like he did yesterday.

I'm just referring to what was said in the interview, and with regard to moving off their respective numbers.

I agree, Gross speaking to the media could be construed as that in a broader sense.

Neither chart helps much when dealing with professional sports contracts. A little sure. Professional sports is a unique market with its own defined rules of engagement. Those charts can help conceptualize how to proceed in some respects but they don't get you to the right approach in the NHL context, IMHO.

EDIT: second chart better than the first however in this context.

I have been involved in a couple negotiations years ago with Murray Edwards as a participant. In each case he was the guy holding the most cards (and by cards I mainly mean money that others wanted/needed). The man was super smart, had a pretty near photographic memory, and boy was he tough.

Isn't the threat of substitutes or New Entrants moot, with respect to Johnny's negotiations? Of course I'm just an IT Network Admin so I know nothing about negotiations beyond my salary expectations each year

First rule of negotiating:

The person with the money has the upper hand.

I wonder if Gaudreau's agent has done his PEST analysis. Probably. That's important too.

Not in the NHL.

Talented players have the upper hand. They are a rare commodity.

The only time the owners have the upper hand is when they lock them out.

So long as the person without the money doesn't have something the person with money wants.....

Well, Francis is going to get a GFYS when asking for quotes from the top line now. Good, maybe the hack will think before he shoots his mouth off for a story.

Nope.

There are caps in place. So even though we're all pissing our pants over Johnny Hockey making $8mm/yr, the only reason it's not $10mm or $20mm or whatever is because there's a cap.

And why is there a cap? Because the NHLPA agreed to it. And they keep agreeing to it.

Having money is awesome.
