I think most people feel that's logical, but wording it as "Expect" is false based on that Fan960 interview.

He talked at length about how they're currently both dug into trenches and have to move at some point. I definitely wouldn't put that spin on it after listening.

- Thought Gross's comments about Gaudreau not wanting a trade were genuine

- Thinks both sides are frustrated and it's a stalemate

- His guess is Flames are in the mid 6 area and Gaudreau's camp around 8 or slightly over. Thinks that's the trenches and that both sides know they have to move

- Said in most cases like that he (Friedman) usually has a good idea where the end number will be but in this case is genuinely stumped

- (This was interesting) Said he got Treliving on the phone yesterday after he talked to Gross and told him what Gross said. He said he could tell Tree's reaction was that he was about to say something to counter but that he paused, caught himself, and wouldn't comment. Friedman said "come on, spit it out" and Treliving wouldn't even though he said he got the feeling he really wanted to.

Exact words were:

"I think this gets done, I think it gets done before the season starts... I just can't tell you what the number is."

Again, that's a gut feeling, and the thread title change reads like he had some intel it will get done. That isn't the case and is a bit disingenuous to the people coming to the forum this afternoon thinking it's a new development.

I think it gets done too, but based on what he discussed this morning, there is no news on them getting any closer as of yet, though everyone remains hopeful.

Good point. The word "expect" probably shouldn't be in the title, as he made it clear he was in the same boat as Monahan in that it was a his hunch.

Expectation would mean probably mean that he had inside knowledge that there was movement being made by both sides.

Probably yea.

To listen to that whole interview and come away with "he thinks it gets done" is a stretch to me.

I am sure he's said he thinks it gets done every time I've heard him talk about it all summer. Most people seem to feel that way.


But the entire length of the interview is about how they're currently still in a stalemate with either side yet to blink. All I was saying is that there was no new development to draw that from.
