As we used to say in Teacher's College: Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym.

The other team would have all the leverage. Why would they trade their signed and happy version of Gaudreau for an unsigned Gaudreau? It makes no sense.

Gaudreau has no leverage. Trevy should continue this stance until March if need be. Every day Gaudreau is not on the ice or getting paid, his agent is closer to being fired or at least closer to not having his contract renewed

That's bad advice if Treliving values his job. Do you realize the pressure he would be under if Gaudreau missed the whole season and the Flames were mired in another bottom 5 disaster?

This is all premised on the expectation that without Gaudreau in the lineup, the Flames experience a mitigated disaster on ice, and I don't believe that is at all certain.

By the same token, do you realize the pressure Gaudreau would be under if he missed the whole season and the Flames were a playoff team?

Of course it is not that simple, but do you honestly think that the impact of a single player in this market is palpable enough to dramatically effect merchandise revenue for the team? I am not convinced.

I guess it depends how you define dramatic. Have thousands upon thousands of Flames fans already gone out and bought Gaudreau jerseys because of his special abilities? Yes.

Did most of those fans already have Flames jerseys? Yes. Would they have bought a different jersey if not Gaudreau? Not sure, so I guess that's the where the truth lies.

I tend to believe he has had a dramatic effect on jersey sales, but admittedly have no numbers to back it up.

Maybe me but, I'm pretty sure there are NOT thousands upon thousands of Gaudreau jerseys out there. Hundreds? Definitely. Over one thousand? Probable, sure, but that's there things are starting to get murky. Thousands upon thousands of just Gaudreau? I find that difficult to believe...

By far the majority of jerseys I see out there are nameless - just a jersey - so I really don't think Gaudreau would have that significant an effect on the market for Flames merchandise.

Let's be somewhat realistic here. The Flames can't even ice an NHL calibre top line without Guadreau. The season starts and ends with him playing at a high level and him missing games, however many that may be is not going to help that situation. How is it you feel the team can not just compete but be a playoff team without one of its only two, proven true top level scorers?

This team is in big trouble if it doesn't have its top offensive threat in the lineup for any length of time. Revisit this argument in a year or two when Bennett/Tkachuk have had time to develop.

I'm sure that's going to get it done against the heavyweights of the western conference . Better yet, your plan leaves a second line of what? A rookie and two perennial 40 point scorers? That offensive group would be one of the worst in the league.

Like it or not the pressure is squarely on BT once the puck drops. His hand picked coach will have to deal with his mess right out of the gates and that's really unfair to the guy.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler got it done against the heavyweights and the line I presented is bigger, equally as fast, grittier & can score.

I answered the challenge. I'll take my prize money now!
