Playing for Tortorella will do that to a team of elite talents. I'm still amazed he's currently employed in the NHL and Bob "let's have fun" Hartley isn't.
I think if Canada doesn't come back and get those two goals in 14 seconds the Americans would still have a shot. As soon as that happened you saw the wind come out of their sails and they didn't have the mental toughness to bounce back.

Working hard doesn't have to be miserable, and I would say that once the hard work was put in during practice, he wouldn't do much during the game other than strategize. That's basically saying, "we've done the work, now go have fun and execute the game plan". It worked for a while, but awful results will lead to a whole lot of "no fun" for everyone.

Of course we can. Every line on this team is a 1st line, and you could throw any of them out in an NHL game down by 1 or up by 1. Christ, there's only 2 natural wingers on the team. Never mind losing a game, winning a faceoff against this group is a moral victory.

True, but no amount of heart and grit can overcome this Canadian team IMO.

Canada simply has the best players at every position except maybe LW.

Yeah, say hello to Hasek and Jagr. Hasek was the most dominant player in that whole 98 tournament.

Plus, Crawford.

They were 4th, losing to Finland in the bronze medal game. That's not just 2 players having a good game against them. But now we're derailing the thread.

Canada just has too much elite talent. Look at their lines, it's absurd. The amount of first overall players and superstar talent is ridiculous. It really is Canada's game. No other country churns out anywhere near the level of talent that Canada does.

Where is Canada's weakness? They have the best forwards, best defence and with Price, the best goaltending.

Team North America did strip the U.S. with some talent. Eichel and Gaudreau would help, and if the States brought Kessel and others that likely should have been selected in front of Abdelkader and maybe another name or two, maybe this would be closer and they'd still lose.

Canada is ridiculous. Nobody is better than them.

Outside of Kane...is there another F who could make Team Canada?
Pavelski?
How about on D....do they have anyone who would make it?
Who would he (they) replace?
My point being that it is a pretty big mismatch.

I bet it's difficult to engineer a comeback when your reward is spending more time with John Tortorella

Canada clearly the best team in the tournament. Would love to see them play Team NA. Would be an exciting game.

The U.S could really use Kessel and Tyler Johnson. They went with Abdelkader who is a good player but he's useless in a tournament like this where has to face elite talent like the Canadians.

hah! Darren Pang on the ESPN broadcast was talking about Team NA going forward in future World Cups, and was prattling about how both USA and Canada will produce more great young talent to keep it just as entertaining to watch that team in the future. The first player he mentions right after that? Matthew Tkachuk.
