Did any details emerge about the proposed 3-way trade between Columbus, Calgary, and Edmonton that Friedman cites?

Only that out would've left Edmonton with a choice of Sergachev or Tkachuk

Wasn't the rumored something like
Calgary gets: Milano+3rd
Edmonton gets: 5th+Hamilton
CBJ gets: 4th+?

I can't remember the CBJ part.
I think Milano was the guy involved for the Flames to get though.

Here was the rumor:
To CLB: RNH, 4th pick
To CGY: 3rd pick, Milano
To EDM: 6th pick, Dougie

Thank god that didn't happen, it would've been disastrous. Hamilton+Tkachuk >>>>>> Puljujarvi+Milano

I tend to agree, but does your POV change if you didn't know the Flames were going to have Tkachuk drop to them.

What if they had to go with their next pick there - Nylander or one of the dmen?

Nylander/Joe Levi/Sergachev v. Pul+Milano.

Good point. The name appeal changes but I still think I would rather have Hamilton+Juolevi than Puljuarvi+Milano. We are giving up the only established NHLer in that scenario as well, one who is still young, is a top4 and has untapped potential. Every other peice could be something or nothing.

whether or not he turns out to be right, you can't have people in your organization you cant trust to keep information in house

wait, what was the exact timing of Pfeffer's firing and his "average Weber" comments? I remember it as him being let go, and then shortly after saying a bunch of future employment-ruining stuff. I'm 90% sure he didn't put the Habs on blast publicly while still employed.

Flames were trading up to get Tkachuk.

I really hope not, that would've been a bad play. You just take Nylander/Juolevi before you do that because Hamilton isn't the difference between Tkachuk and those two. Not that Puljujarvi would be worth it either. Laine or Matthews MIGHT have been acceptable for sacrificing Hamilton, but that's about it.

Though that might have been with the Flames assuming Puljujarvi goes 3rd instead of Dubois. But regardless, it sounds like the Flames were targeting Tkachuk.

I figure they talked to Columbus about getting #3 for Puljujarvi, but Columbus didn't think Dubois would get past Vancouver.

So the Flames then set their sights on #4, and Tkachuk.

I am under the impression the Flames and most other teams got wind of Columbus taking Dubois at #3. Hence Treliving at #4 wanted Puljujarvi badly. Chiarelli didn't bite.

Yah I read that teams knew Dubois was going at #3 24 hours before the draft.

Great write up by Friedman. It's always fun to read perspectives from the people actually involved in those things. it was a fun day though, those 3 events transpiring in the same timespan was awesome.

They weren't earth shattering events for me though. The Hall trade was inevitable and Ryan Rishaug being the Oilers go to guy to butter up the masses before anything happens laid everything down in the 2 hours leading up to the announcement. It came as no huge shock to me. He was even trying to really re-enforce the idea that the return wasn't going to be spectacular, but necessary. I'd love to drum up those series of tweets from him. So the Hall trade for me was anticlimactic.

The Subban trade? Well that was shocking in only that David Poile is a blockbuster maniac and he pulled off another solid trade. It was shocking in tht MTL sacrificed a massive marketing face in order to bring in what the team needed. But its a trade I feel was good for both teams both long term and for now. MTL more for right now but gives them room to re-sign the real gem on their roster, Carey Price.

Stamkos? Was only shocking because he predictably shunned Toronto and the T.O media made a thing about it. What does it say that Stamkos took less money to stay far...far away from T.O than to play there and earn the Max money? It says Toronto media is a factor and its not a positive.

And yet, the Oilers didn't have a jersey ready?

The trade talk with Columbus was to get the #3 and Puljujarvi.

There were likely other talks where they were trying to move into 4th for Tkachuk, but the only reason to include Columbus was JP.
