Lurked for a while and joined for the good hockey discussion. Seems like this is one of the only sites that works with tapatalk which makes it very readable as well. Other sites are impossible to read on a phone without tapatalk

I'd like to know of beerfund ever came back with another name. He was my first bit of CP drama. He quit because he felt the MODs knowing and checking his IP was some sort of invasion of privacy. This was back in 2002 when your IP meant something, gd it!

I originally started reading this forum in the early 2000's, I can't remember exactly when but a friend and I used to read the forum after we watched the games and discuss the points that were made. There were always so many good posts to go over, lots of details. I always felt I was a hardcore fan that knew a lot but I was humbled very quickly. It actually made me intimidated to register and so I didn't until 2002, my online handle for games was BC but that was to short so I went with BeeCee, but most people assumed I was from BC and because of that a Nucks fan, so I was actually met with hostility sometimes.
In 2004 when the forum moved over or whatever I thought I lost this account as if I remember correctly there were steps that needed to be taken to save it? Back then I didn't post much anyway, I was young, like 18 or 19, and a lot of the talk was as I said over my head. So I just went back to lurking and enjoying. Around 2007 I got angry at something that was posted though and I had to register just to comment on it. Then it just snowballed and the forum became more and more interesting to me. A few years ago I decided to randomly try this account, I think it was when that thread came up about the forum declining and the new posters versus old posters and I had to prove to someone I had actually been here longer than them.
Over the years I've drifted from the hockey talk more towards the off topic stuff. I leave the hockey talk to the pros and I just enjoy reading the comments from both sides, occasionally putting in my two cents. But instead I dominate the comic book threads with my wealth of knowledge. Pushing peons aside to make sure my opinion is heard and worshiped. I do think at some point they will re name it after me, but it takes time to build a legend this I know..
Geez I just realized that I first registered 14 years ago now, crazy how time flies.

Stumbled across it scouring the web for lockout news during the lost season. Lurked for a bit then signed up in before the '05 season started up.

Was a sports forum nomad for years. This is simply one of the few from back in the day that's still kicking around.

I was 16 years old and making angsty teenager posts on some other forum (maybe the Flames official forum, or some Sportsnet forum) while living in my parents basement. Someone said I should bring my talents here. (So long ago I don't remember who you are but thank you!)
I promptly felt very humbled by the wealth of knowledge that this community has and started lurking more than actually posting.

I still can't believe that the puck with the odd, non-symmetrical colour design got chosen as the new logo a few years back. It is not good.

First the background reasons. My real life social circles don't really follow sports, let alone talk about it, so that's one reason. I have also had a soft spot for the Flames since the original EA Sports NHL Hockey game. (The Flames were pretty much the best team in that, plus they had those cool jerseys.)
But mostly it started in 2004. Back in those days the Finnish goalies had somewhat suddenly started invading the NHL. Following how they were doing was pretty much my main reason for following the league. In doing that I read up a lot on what the fans of those teams thought of them. When the Flames traded for Kipper, I started lurking here, and then the cup run happened I just fell in love with the enthusiasm, the quality of the hockey talk and just the general atmosphere. After that I've just been unable to quit.
It's really weird to be a relatively old poster now. I really wish I'd have the money to actually visit Calgary one day, but I'm unfortunately dirt poor and it doesn't look like that's going to change.

I came here as I found this community to be the quickest and most reliable news source (looking at you, sureloss) for all things Flames related.
While I don't post a lot, I found that the quality of conversation was usually pretty good and there were a lot of posts that my own opinions would mirror as well.
I quickly decided that thanking things would be better than re-posting the same things that others had mentioned pages ago.

As to why I joined, because this is flat out one of the best, most measured, well-run forums on the internet.
Plus, Thanks button.

A lot of us were really unsure about that thanks button when it was introduced. I recall Reggie trolling the forum by thanking *everything* to make a point about how annoying/disruptive it was.
Now, it is so ingrained into CP culture that Reggie appropriates slogans like "Edmonton is no good" to try and gain thanks.

I don't recall doing that. I'm basically agnostic regarding the "thanks" button.
But yes, Edmonton is indeed no good and that's worth repeating on a regular basis.
