The fact that they are considering a name with more than 2 words is absurd. "Las Vegas _____ Knights/Hawks"
Calgary Glowing Flames
Vancouver Rioting Canucks
Edmonton Mullet Oilers
Winnipeg Carbonfootprint Jets
Ottawa Irrelevant Senators
Toronto Center of the Universe Maple Leafs
Montreal Subban for Webber Canadians
None of them have any sort of ring to them with the extra names. Well, except for Edmonton and Vancouver maybe.

Fair enough, I just figure they're trying to maximize its value upon potential future sale.

Detroit Red Wings
Columbus Blue Jackets
Toronto Maple Leafs
Not saying these are amazing names, just pointing out there's already 3 teams that have a "two word" team name already.

And everyone just calls them the Wings, Jackets and Leafs. I'd rather call the team the Desert Knights only to shorten it to the Knights than calling a team the Pelicans, still hate that name.

I think the trouble with naming something for Vegas is that "Las Vegas" doesn't sound too great with most names. This seems like a good case where naming the team Nevada ____ could work well.
Nevada Scorpions
Nevada Desert Knights
Nevada Golden Hawks
I dunno, but I look forward to Calgary crushing them.

In the vein of the poster above you, I'd likely drop the "Las" and just call them the "Vegas <whatever>" or whatever.

The Calgary Flames are now known as the Gary Flames because three syllables in a city name is hard.

Heh, maybe I'm just lazy. I typically say "I'm going to Vegas" not "I'm going to Las Vegas" ;P

Or you've simply been roped in by a two bit marketing campaign where they rarely say the first word in the cut name. But you're probably lazy too. ;P

Just to further this point, the Flames registered stocktongrizzlies.com and trademarked the name Stockton Grizzlies before settling on Stockton Heat for their AHL affiliate last year.

I actually like "Desert Knights" it makes me hope they go with some reference to this for a secondary logo:

New Jersey is definitely named after the Jersey Devil. The name was chosen out of a "Name the Team" poll when they moved from Colorado.

According to sportslogos.net. the only domain they have registered is Desert Knights, with the rest held by squatters.
Also, as far as the two name thing goes, in the wacky 70's that was sports branding, the Blue Jays were brought to Toronto in part by Labatt. The hope from the owners was that the team nickname would be the "Blues", ala Labatt Blue, with the Jays being the part dropped. Didn't work out that way.

Weren't the Winnipeg blue bombers named that for the same reason, or was theirs old enough to be the other way around? I remember seeing something ages ago about the bombers being connected to labatt.
