I imagine it was the Dodo's fault for being easy to catch, thus the name.

Japanese are raping the oceans unlike anyone has seen before, we even get their boats up near Iceland trying to catch anything and everything.

My mother was American (it's okay she's Canadian now too) always says Tuna Fish. One time I told her that adding Fish after Tuna was an American thing because, as Canadians, we don't need to add Fish after Tuna as we already assume it is fish once we hear that it's Tuna.

Albacore tuna, which is the delicious stuff in most of the cans we buy, is also considered "threatened". Doesn't seem as glum as it is for the Bluefin, but it's not good either. I had to look it up.

Might be willful ignorance on my part since I love a tunafish sandwich and lived on tunafish with KD when i wore a younger man's clothes, but I always figured the ocean must just be swimming with Albacore, since it's so cheap.

Albacore is the more expensive kind. The Skipjack, which is the cheap stuff, is pretty plentiful.

Albacore can also be a sustainable fishery, depending on which stock is hunted.

A major issue with Bluefin is that it's way bigger than Albacore and Skipjack. So it takes longer to grow and mature. This makes it more vulnerable.

I suspect if the Dodo had been more delicious, humans might have started raising them specifically for food. Cows will never go extinct so long as we continue to eat them.
