This is a discussion thats happening all over the world, whether you deem it worthy or not. Sorry but tough topics should be open for discussion, you can always ban individual users who take things too far.

I guess the idea of free speech, debate, is too much for some. I'm in my 40s, and this kind of heated topic would never have been suppressed in my social circles, my University, but it seems these days we champion the idea of silencing those who don't agree with us, if they genuinely have a desire to debate and discuss.

That thread turned into a cluster of insults thanks to basically two people. Your "idea" was stupid, the discussion that took over the thread instead of 'regressive liberals bad' was a GREAT discussion and super captivating.

Don't sit here and act like mods are some pseudo-fascist repressors of free speech. They locked a thread because in the middle of some really interesting debate, it got stupid, not because of the content of the discussion. To insinuate that this thread would suffer the same fate simply because 'Islam' means you don't really have a grasp on anything that's being/been talked about anyway.

Nobody is trying to quell free speech or your desire to have a discussion. Create better threads so that people don't have to go off topic to make them worth engaging in.

I don't, in fact up until a few years ago I ran a top 100 message board website that was about as unskeptical as I was skeptical. The job of the mods is to deal with the individuals who have no worth to the conversation, and keep the discussion alive. Instead they choose to review it, and I fear that is what many of us have suggested IS the problem, that the left would rather pretend these difficult questions didn't exist and just play the regressive, SJW, narrative.

Actually, a private message board has the right to quell my free speech. They can ban me, can ban posters they find "bothersome" and I think that at the best of times is a difficult line to balance for them.

My thread however is a major topic of discussion all over the world, so why not let it continue, ban those people unwilling to have a thoughtful debate, whom feel the need to spend their effort arguing against even having the discussion or insulting people who they don't agree with...

It's really hard to say there is not a misogyny problem in Islam, generally. It's also entirely wrong to solve this problem by taking it out on Muslim women.

I actually think that some of the calumnious agitators actually know that if they troll or obfuscate enough, they will get the thread shut down or so frustrate the other side, that the debate will preemptively shut down.

I really believe that it is an intentional effort to shut down the other side without actually engaging with their ideas.

It doesn't happen a lot, it doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of good debate on this board, but it is certainly a thing.

So basically, you're saying the thread was great as long as you and Corsi could dominate discussion, but it turned to crap as soon as a couple posters challenged some of your basic arguments, particularly your premise that this issue represents a "clash of civilizations".

There isn't a genuine desire to stifle debate, it's that CP gets like this every summer 'round this time. We're all getting squirrelly without hockey and people are lashing out.
