Based on Barkov's $5.9M for 6 years and MacKinnon's $6.3M for 7 years, you probably should have expected this exact contract.

Can you expand on that?

When Gaudreau was injured and missed 2 games in late March last season... Monahan had 1 goal and 3 assists in those 2 games.

Man, Barkov at $5.9M is a steal, even if it's for "only" six years

Sean's deal is fair market value for both the team and the player.

Hardly, when Barkov is a ufa at age 26 it won't look like such a steal. Getting Barkov at another year, even if it brought that cap hit up would have been the better play.

Don't worry, Mona-man, this is all part of the Mona-plan.

Great contract. You gotta pony up to get these guys to stay around. Can't imagine Johnny will be far behind. Gotta wonder what the hold up is.. Also how sad does it make you feel on a personal that he'll be 28 when the contract expires! Geez he's a very rich young man. Man I feel old today

I dunno why the extra 100k on our #1 center, top of his draft class in pts, makes you scared.

This is exactly my thinking as well. Johnny's camp is probably asking for 5 or 6 years, while the Flames obviously want 7 or 8. Hopefully they'll settle at 6.

I can't stop giggling at the thought that I originally thought you said "I cannot stop Googling this post", ResAlien. Indeed, what a time to be alive.

sweeet.

Figured Monohan would get signed first, just for the Offer Sheet situation.

I think it has a lot to do with him coming or being in town. No way do they announce these without the player being in town for the photo op. Anyone know if Gaudreau is out east?

it is possible he will struggle if split from johnny hockey, just as it is possible that he will really blossom if placed with (insert any other players name here).

Seems to me to be a reasonable deal. and he will still have the potential to make many millions more on his next contract.

Countdown to the Gaudreau 3x7 announcement in 3-2-1...

Happy to see Monahan signed long term. Hopefully Johnny next, but I too think he wants a short contract to UFA.
