Tre has to have a very good idea of what Johnnys $$$$ is to commit a number to Sean

Great signing. The Flames will go as far as Monahan takes them over the next 7 seasons.

My feelings exactly. I was hoping for a bit of a discount, but it always seemed unlikely.

Is it reasonable to suggest that this deal has also just capped Sam Bennett's next contract? Short of putting up a 35G/75PT season, Bennett's deal should come in lower than this one.

It really drives home what a different world professional athletes operate in when you realize that the $0.075M "tacked on" to bring him above Mackinnon's salary is actually a darn good wage for most people.

6.4M seems like a lot, was hoping for 6 or less. I'm nervous that he'll a struggle if taken from Gaudreau, as we've seen in the past. I would have thought Treliving could have used that fact as leverage. . .

Well then, Calgarians better start offering their daughters up to Gaudreau. There should be a long line up outside his townhouse. Don't forget the dowry.

Bennett's not going to be in the same situation at all though. He burned a year off his ELC because of playoffs in 2014-2015 but not his UFA eligibility.

Monahan had a 22 goal season followed by a 30 goal season and a 27 goal season before signing this contract.

Bennett only has his 18 goal season and whatever he achieves this year. Short of a spectacular season, his extension is looking like a prime candidate for a bridge-contract. Certainly, given the less proven, more RFA years, if he were to sign a 7 year contract it would have to be less than Monahan without an absolute massive year this year.

This is like my vested interest in seeing Gaudreau signed long term. I have a lot of Johnny merchandise already, hate to see it outdated so soon.

Great deal for Monahan and the Flames! Very excited that he'll be a major piece of the team going forward.
