Hoglund is a good one. Others that havenīt been mentioned yet are Jeff Shantz who used to centre our top line, Igor Kravchuk (the MoKrap pairing with Derek Morris) and that year we went through all those goalies to get to Brathawaite: Trefilov, Tyler Moss, Tyrone Garner, etc

Yes...I'm shocked people dont reflect upon that with sincere fondness...

Man there were some dark days in the 90s.
I remember going to a Canes game in 97 I believe. The Canes were skating circles around the Flames, and Flames couldn't complete a pass if their lives depended on it.
Thank all that is holy, those days are over and the NHL has a functioning CBA.

Hamrlik for me. As much for the player himself as what he represented. Signing Hamrlik was the first time I remember the Flames were buyers during free agency. I wasn't around for the 80s. I barely remember the late 90s, but what I do remember is losing star player after star player because the Flames couldn't compete financially with other teams.
Hamrlik represents the revitalization of the Flames in my opinion. He was a good player in his own right, but the timing of his arrival really solidifies him as one of my favourite short term Flames.

Bill Lindsay.
He had hands made of mud and tried so hard to score. I swear that opposing teams would let him get breakaways because there was nothing to worry about. He shot the puck into the goaltender's logo every. single. time. When there was nothing to cheer about for the Flames, me and my friends would just cheer for Bill Lindsay to get a goal.
Remember the hype about Rico Fata?

Levente Szuper. I really had high hopes for him.
Ok not that high, but still was pulling for the guy. I believe his big contribution was as a backup on the bench one game.

As I mentioned above, less than half of all players to ever wear a Flames jersey have played more than a single season, and less than 1/4 have played as many as two. Two seasons played for one NHL team by today's standards is most certainly not "short term."

Amazed we've made it this far without mentioning Dean McAmmond, who is still my favourite Flame of all time. That McAmmond - Conroy - Iginla line was killer.

But I agree, I loved that trio.
I believe Deano lead the team in GWG in 03/04, so his absence was huge in the playoffs.
Edit: Looks like he was 3rd on the team actually with 5. Behind Iggy (10) and Donovan (8).

Reading some of the names in this thread has made me so thankful this team somehow, against all odds, managed to survive the 90's and early 2000's. A lesser franchise would have surely rotted and withered to dust.

Yeah, many people have listed guys who have played a lot of games in a Flames jersey.
John Tonelli for example played 192 games as a Flame. He is one of my all time favorites but I didn't think of him as a "short term" Flames player.

PRUST!
Exactly the kind of player the NHL was clamoring for in those days (and still are somewhat), as evidenced by other teams trading for him from Calgary not once, but twice.
Very tough kid, fantastic teammate, and not a bad player either. Honestly, still a guy that may play on today's roster if he was here.

Just perusing the stats of some of the names in this thread, and I was pretty shocked to see that Shean Donovan had 951 career NHL games. He always seemed to me like one of those guys who is around for 3-4 years then disappears, but clearly I was wrong. Good for him.

Had such a slick glove and exciting style. Plus he had the engaging personality the media/fans love. And bonus points for helping chase Trevor Kidd out of town

I remember when we acquired Shantz and Dubinsky and I was pissed because Dubinsky was the slowest played in the video game. But then I recall he scored a game winner early in his tenure and became my underdog favourite player at the time.
