That's the weird thing though... You're right; it's a base speech. But just by not being completely window-licking bat crap crazy, it's also a mainstream swing-voter speech. If you've just sort of vaguely been paying attention to the election until now, and heard tell of this absolute nutbar idiot taking over the Republicans, and you tuned into this, you'd be inclined to say "this isn't actually all that bad".

Ever get the feeling it's not about politics, and it's merely just cheerleading for a team?

That hair, I mean I know, always and long since talked about, but it's utterly insane. Combed over from all and any angles.

I think it's the type of free trade. Canada-US free trade is fine, NAFTA is probably ok too except Mexico is the weak link.
The more countries involved the less control US has. US being in the TPP hurts them the republicans think because other counties dictate the terms.

Trump's running mate supports free trade (and TPP specifically I believe), as do most Republicans. He won't be renegotiating or cancelling any deals, Congress has to approve that.

Best part for me was the tax breaks for everyone and in the back of his mind Trump is wringing his hands and diving into a pile of money like scrooge Mcduck

That was the lamest thing I've ever watched. It seems so phony and staged. Trump is like the least presidential person I've ever seen on a stage.

Like I said earlier, it sounded to me a lot like a speech any of the other GOP front runners could have given, except for Cruz, who would have had way, way more Jesus. So, for Trump, it was as sober as it gets and then some. No real antics, no name calling, no more race baiting than any other Republican offers... kind of disappointing, honestly.
