Can we all chip in and build this magical house with every suggestion in the thread? I bet it would be flippin' awesome.

A quiet room with a massage table

A room with a series of pulleys

Someplace to keep the monkeys

All of the above could be one room or a series of rooms.

That is a sick looking wine cellar, but isn't the whole point of a wine cellar to keep wine in the dark so it doesn't go bad?

Not just wider, but if possible, get it deeper. One of my regrets is not asking to see if they could extend my garage a few feet lengthwise. I have an extra long driveway, but my garage barely fits my car when I park it in front of my shelf.

Close! 2015 edition of the CEC.

As for me, I want an undeveloped basement. That way I can wire it how I want, throw in conduits for future retrofits and a bad ass bar and pool table.

Maybe they turned on the lights to take a picture? Not everyone has Delgar's poor camera skills.

Pretty sure someone isn't going to pick their wine in the dark. The room still needs to have a light.

Edit: just noticed the window. Yeah that's a weird wine room.

Designed by someone with skill, to maximize thermal and floor space efficiency, lot orientation and daylight acquisition.

In a nutshell:

- Ensuite in at least two bedrooms upstairs
- Walk in closet for the master bedroom
- 8 foot+ ceilings with crown moulding
- Washroom# > Bedroom#
- Rounded corners vs square corners for the walls
- Reasonable sized pantry and big island in the kitchen
- Open layout
- Garage. Optional = bigger for storage of tires, tools and perhaps to air out hockey equipment
- Upgraded shelving in pantry, walk in closet, mudroom, closets etc. Those wire ones are adequate... but..
- Under counter lighting in kitchen is sweet.
- CAT cable in the whole house is sweet.
- Upgraded sound absorbing options for bathrooms and utility closets.
- NO to central vac. Spend the money on a good Miele or Dyson instead. Spluge on a Roomba if you have hardwood instead of carpet. Or... Why not both?
- Upgrade thermostat to a slick smart thermostat like the ecobee3. Everyone is fascinated by those, and a nicer one just looks like art rather than function panel. I love changing the temperature on my phone in bed rather than have to get up and go to the panel.
- I would love to have a stone coated tin roof. Looks great. Last forever.

Depending on what you had in mind, I don't think the above would be too expensive to implement. Most of them are just a few hundred to a G extra for something they're building and installing anyways.

Dream home for me? Practical adds would be...

- Add mudroom or den
- Add deck and/or balcony
- Backyard
- Hot tub or sauna
- Games room
- Wet bar in basement
- Windows with the ability to go opaque or transparent
- Fireplace

But I'd rather spend money on sweet furniture and things inside my home than add the above items. I think my dream home will be about 2200 sq ft and live 4-5 people comfortably.

These wolves and coyote comments are too hilarious, I have been sitting at my desk laughing at the additional comments throughout the day. Good thing most people are out stampeding or on holidays to hear me.

Anyway, back on topic.

If I was going to be able to build my dream home, it would have pretty well everything I use on a regular basis on the main floor. Large kitchen/living area, a real fire place. Master bedroom with walk in closet, double sinks, stand up shower. Two bathrooms on the main floor. A mud room with laundry and a pantry. Large windows to the back yard, south facing, large wrap around deck with outdoor audio.

Double garage with high ceilings for loads of storage. Basement for entertainment and a guest living area, maybe a small kitchenette/bar for parties and hosting family/friends.

That is about it. I do love the other additions like a wine cellar, sauna, thermal and solar panels, etc. That would all be lovely but I don't see that in the budget for me any time soon!

No, the point of a wine room is to show off how wealthy and sophisticated you are. The more people who can see it, the better. You have no idea how many of these I've seen empty or worse - stocked with fake bottles. Or worse worse - stocked with Yellow Tail.

Blame Nokia for the subpar camera they included on his 7650.

In my house I did:

-Cat cables throughout
-Floor drain, rough in plumbing and natural gas in garage
-Walk through pantry into mudroom
-Had the builder put in pieces of 2x6 behind the wall in great room and bonus room to mount my tv

What I wish I added:

-Pot lights in soffit instead of traditional mounted lights
-Vacuum pan for central vac in the washrooms. So much hair on the floor from my wife and kids
-Hose bib in garage
-9ft ceilings upper floor and basement
