This is a young guy who has gotten to this point in his career because he's so talented that he doesn't even need to work on conditioning. I can guarantee you that his first week in professional hockey will hammer home the lesson Treliving is publicly giving him now. When he's got 30-year-old, 220 lb AHL journeymen coming at him on the forecheck all night long I can guarantee he'll start hitting the gym a bit harder.
I don't see any point sending him back to junior. Rasmus will be getting a contract, but perhaps Treliving is dangling the carrot and saying if he doesn't shape up he won't be getting anywhere near the rookie max salary or bonus structure he would like. In doing so BT is both posturing to save a bit of money on the ELC but also motivating (hopefully) this talented youngster to do the work he needs to do to become a useful asset on this team.
Rasmus already signed his ELC.

If you guys wanted to see some more photos from Dev camp I will keep adding them to this gallery. Fair warning: It's my podcasts' website so music (or me rambling) will play when the page loads. Turn down speakers if you're so inclined.
Okay that was just well done...made me LOL for sure.
Otherwise I would have to say that I didn't have a chance to see camp, but from what others have said Gillies looked good. Not show stopping good, but good enough to suggest he didn't really lose anything after the injury development wise. Other posters can correct me on this if they have a different opinion though.

He's an amazing player. He's obviously getting piled-on by the GM, posters here and the media but boy is he good. Like others have hinted at, I honestly think hockey has just been SO easy for him the last few years he doesn't have to work hard.
He will slim down. He will hit the gym. He will be a good pro. Everyone should be excited about Rasmus because he seriously is already thinking and controlling the game at an NHL level. A rare talent in my mind and I couldn't be more exite about Rasmus, Chilly and Hickey. Talk about anti-Oiler. We are STACKED on the back-end!

You certainly get the sense that his conditioning and commitment is what dropped him into the 2nd round.
Both Andersson and Kylington are arguably first round talents (maybe even top 15 talents from a deep draft), but both guys had some character issues which dropped them to the 2nd round.
If even one of them works out, it'll still be a successful draft. Don't mind this kind of calculated risk taking by management. If you have two 2nd round picks, take two big swings and go for the home run.

With Andersson, only time will tell. Lots of talented prospects have been undone by a lack of work ethic. Mario Lemieux was famously a donuts-and-cigarettes guy for the first part of his career, but he was so supremely talented it didnt' matter. As the league changed, even he had to shift his commitment, so there is truly no space for coasting any more.
If he doesn't commit to his conditioning, he'll be out of hockey in a year. And two years and constant reminders later, he's still not committed. Not everyone has the desire, regardless of talent. We may have to accept he's one of those.

and by most reports Kylington already looking to be well on the pace needed to get back to those lofty top 10 pick expectations.
Man that's two straight drafts where Treliving has proven to everyone that he isn't drafting the way Burke has been talking.

Confidence and a year of playing pro hockey in North America can go a long way.
Really hope he becomes the player everyone thought he was when he was 16/17 years old.
