So much for this being a bit of fun.

EDIT: For the record, I think Jankowski has shown us enough now to justify Feaster having drafted him in the first round. In MY opinion his trajectory over his time in college suggests he's a good bet to be a solid top six centre at least - and really, have we seen enough of Tkachuk for us to say anything more than him being a solid bet to be a top 6 player? He did play for a stacked London team and there are the questions (perhaps not so legitimate) about whether or not he was being carried by his line mates to some degree.

On top of the fact he plays centre as opposed to the wing, Jankowski skates better than Tkachuk, is bigger than Tkachuk, and by most accounts he's learning how to use that size to his advantage. This is not to take anything away from Tkachuk, because I think he's going to be a good player for a long time, but I think the gap between the two is a lot smaller than others think it is.

In the end, it's a toss up I think, and since I have a bit of a soft spot for the underdog, I went with Jankowski.

Can we get back to having fun with this now?

Just my takeaway, though.
You think he'll be a star after watching a dev camp? Come on.

Dev camp, rookie camp & young stars tournaments are a completely different animal compared to when you have Gio, Brodie and Hamilton staring you down in main camp and Johnny and Mony dazzling you in offense.

Pump the brakes a little.

Tkachuk doesn't impress me, relative to what you expect for a 6th OA pick. He didn't impress me in London, didn't impress me at the Juniors, and didn't impress at dev camp. I didn't watch the playoffs or memorial cup, which is where he was at his supposed best though. He's just so average to me. You don't want average in a prospect.

I don't like to be a downer about the Flames but I just don't see a great future player there. If you told me to keep one prospect from the pool he'd be way down the list. Maybe I've just become too attached to all the prospects the Flames already have.

I voted for Shinkaruk because he is the most likely player to provide both a short and long term positive impact for the Flames.

Oh, for sure.

But Tuulola just has so much raw skill and talent. He was acing all of his drills. The skating, while not his strongest attribute, was still explosive and moderately quick. He works so hard on the ice.

I just think he has all of the tools.

The way I look at is Tkachuk is the closest thing to being a sure thing that we have. His stats, clutch play and pedigree are outstanding.

I picked Tkachuk, but I do feel there are some contenders in the pool. I also considered the providence duo of Gillies and Jankowski as well as the Colts duo of Andersson and Mangipane. Brandon Hickey is also very high on my list, along with Shunkaruk, Pollock, and Parsons. McDonald appears much improved as well. E2 finds his way into the dark horse category from a fine showing in the development came.

On a separate note, Wotherspoon is most definitely our most NHL ready prospect and I don't think there is even a debate on that.

It's true that these camps aren't a perfect indicator but sometimes you can just tell. At the Young Stars tourney Johnny dominated, Jooris clearly looked like an NHLer, Andersson was the best defensemen on the ice last year etc.

If you can't even look good against easy competition, you're unlikely to impress against the top guys.

And why should he "pump the brakes"? Guys are constantly making proclamations about other prospects. This poster can't have an opinion on this one guy? He clearly said it was just his opinion.

Unfortunately for TheScorpion some people have a jaded view on anything he says. Sometimes it happens, people get whatever they feel with you and it's hard to change their perception of you.. No matter how much he's changed for the better etc.

Hopefully they ease off him a bit. But he's taking it well. Good on you scorpion.

And time for my 3rd annual Prospect Awards:

The Gaudreau Award for me thinking nothing of them when drafted but now excited about the possibilities - Adam Ollas Mattsson
(previous winners Culkin & Gaudreau)

The Tkaczuk (note spelling) Award for the player with the most disappointing season - Morgan Klimchuk
(previous winners Greg Nemiscz, always Greg Nemiscz)

The Chucko Award for biggest dropper on my list - Ryan Culkin
(previous winners Granlund & Reinhart)

The Jooris Award for biggest riser on my list - Garnet Hathaway
(previous winners Kulak & Jooris)

The Nemiscz Award for the prospect I'm most worried about - Mason McDonald
(previous winners Shore & Ferland)

The Jankowski Award for best long-term project - Adam Fox
(previous winners Jankowski & Jankowski)

The Seiloff Award or the "try not to get hurt this year OK buddy?" award - Ryan Culkin
(previous winners Seiloff & Seiloff)

and finally the Eat Bread Award for best name - E2 Tuulola
(previous winner Mangiapane)

Figured I would pick Shinkaruk since he is the best player on the list that I have seen play NHL games.

I just don't understand the love for Jankowski. Drafted four years ago, still does not sound ready for the NHL. Reviews on this site about him in the rookie tournament were not good. I think he will be lucky to make the NHL - even as a fourth liner. I'd love to be wrong, but if he is our best prospect, this team is in trouble.

I'd debate that. I think Shinkaruk and Kulak are more NHL ready.

I was there for two days. Jankowski was one of my three or four best forwards on the ice, along with Tuulola, Carroll, and Tkachuk.

You'd know more than me then. I just read part of the thread where people said they weren't impressed. I'd love to see him be an impact player, but his development seems to have been so slow, I am doubtful.

Tkachuk will definitely be an awesome player for the team, but I think the long-term impact of Gillies will be more important. Went with GIllies.

I think the highest ceiling, and most likely to achieve respective ceiling, is Hickey.
And no - I'll not turn in my 14 year commemorative CP key chain.

Tkachuk picked for the upside - he is a potential game-changer in that top 6 - whether he ends up on his off wing with Gaudreau feeding him and Monahan, or on the left of Bennett.
Not sure if he gets the full year or up to 9 games - but he is a key piece of the forward unit going ahead.

Close: Gillies (upside as a #1 goaltender), Hickey (best combo of upside and likelihood to play at a high level in NHL of the D) and Jankowski (good "middle 6" centreman upside, likely to at least play a bit in the NHL) - I will have a tough time picking #2 and 3
