Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 1
It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. almost like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel Calgarypuck and the Summer Prospect Ranking has become an institution for rabid Calgary hockey fans.
2013 - Sean Monahan is the top prospect ( 2013)
2014 - Johnny Gaudreau takes his turn ( 2014)
2015 - Sam Bennett come on down! ( 2015)
The last three years have had a prospect named first, and then make an impact right away on the NHL team. Bennett had to have surgery and mop up the OHL first, but all three were big players for the Flames right away.
Will that be the case again this year?
As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.
Happy voting!

Was tempted to go with Jankowski as he seems to have been progressing quite well.
Not that it really matters. I've probably seen Janko/Tkcahuk play about 1 game total, ever. Just based on reports of their progression.

Doh - I meant to vote Tkachuk first but I was looking ahead to round two in my mind and rushed to Jankowski. Oh well, this one won't be close anyway.

Shiny new toy syndrome. I picked Tkachuk over Janko, but I'm torn between the two. I chose Tkachuk because I think he has a lower bust potential.

For extra fun I'm also going to write when I think these players will play their first NHL game (whether it be a 1 game/9 game tryout) and when I think they will be a full time NHLer.
Tkachuk:
First NHL game = 2016/2017 season
Regular NHLer = 2016/2017 season
Excited about this kid. (Although not as excited as I was about Bennett or Gaudreau - about the same as Monahan)

Is it still shiny new toy syndrome, when the previous #1 shiny new toys made an immediate impact on the Flames?

No 1st round pick last year, and the previous 1st round picks are already on the team full time.
This should be quick. Tkachuk in a landslide.

Went with Tkachuk because he is the shiny new toy.
However I went back and forth between him and Jankowski. Kid has come a long way and could easily be our top prospect.

Well I guess I'm the only one that went with a defenseman.

I see Tkachuk's potential as a prime Chris Kunitz, and Jankowski's potential as a prime Mikko Koivu. Not sure which one pans out closer, though the odds are in Tkachuk's favour, but the tiebreaker for me was simply position. Center over Winger.

I voted Tkachuk based purely on what experts were saying pre-draft about his NHL readiness.
It wouldn't surprise if he made the big club next year, so for that reason he is #1.

Janko vs tkatchuk is a tough choice. Both hard to spell names situated beside each other in the alphabet. Jankowski is longer so Tkachuk wins on efficiency however Tkachuk has to consonants that don't go together so that makes me question his work ethic.
Overall going with the shiney new toy based on upside of top line winger vs Jankos upside of number 2 centre.

This was very tough. Unlike other years, 4 or 5 guys could have been #1 based on different criteria.
Guys like Mangiapane could even be considered due to his ability to get it done for Barrie once again.
Tkachuk, 107 pts in 57 games.
Mangiapane, 106 pts in 59 games on a much less talented line.
If you prefer D as more important prospects in the system, Andersen could be the guy.
Parsons was a really nice pickup and I think he doesn't fall far behind Gillies.
Then there's Shinkaruk who is likely the most NHL ready and has proven he can play his style against men and be successful.
But as others have said, partly shiney new toy syndrome for me but I feel Tkachuk has the highest ceiling.
Then there's Janko.. geez.. there is some nice pieces in the Flames system.

I also went with Tkachuk. Love his ceiling.
I am really curious where Poirier falls this year. He needs to step up this season and dominate in Stockton. I really am pulling for this kid, as I feel like a lot of us have began to write him off, or at least knock him down a few notches on our prospect list.
