While I won't expect a radical change, it will be interesting to see what he does under someone other than Hartley.
That's a pretty clear example of the disconnect between Hartley and Treliving as BT wouldn't have traded for him IMO if he knew Hartley was going to use Bollig exclusively as a forechecker, and restrict Bollig's aggression or retribution abilities, in the name of team discipline.

well, this thread kinda went off the rails...
the fact is that the majority of pundits actually think this was a pretty good deal for the flames... and even if we did pay a bit of a premium, it was a premium of maybe 500K/year... so people are arguing over a pretty paltry sum as far as contracts go...
simply put, we had a hole to fill on RW, gave up zero assets to get one...
And i have yet to hear a single legitimate option that we could have had going forward. One can suggest getting a top 6 RW for a bag of pucks, however, real GMs don't make those deals unfortunately.

The Flames had to be disciplined though, they couldn't ever get a timely save on the PK.
It will be interesting though, somehow quenneville had use for Bollig for 82 games.

I'm not a big fan of this or Froliks contract. But if you take Brouwer and Frolik out of the lineup. It's putridly awful and 8.8 in cap space plus the assets the Flames have at their disposal...I don't see them making it much better without completely destroying their depth.
The Flames do have Bennett on his ELC this year, than Tkachuk for the next three or 4 years depending on when he's ready. Plus these two deals expire when TJ Bodie will be looking for new money. So the Flames won't be losing their best player because of this.
Get to a point where these are your two 'bad' contracts and you should be in good shape.

So I'm guessing this has been covered somewhere, but do NTC and NMC differ at all when it comes to the expansion draft? Are we stuck protecting Brouwer?

Troy Brouwer is under-rated across the NHL. He hits, he fights and he scores. Plus he hasn't missed a game in 3 years. I'm not complaining about the signing, you have to pay more to get the player you want.

No, only NMCs need to be protected.

At this point in time it is moot as Brouwer will almost certainly be protected

And Guaranteed EV - Among other reasons, O'Reilly's difficult history and, thanks to Feaster, he already had a $6 million cap hit - nearly double that of Toffoli.
And to put this to bed, if you think there is even the slightest remote chance that the Flames would not be giving up Bennett in such a trade, then we're done here. You are operating in a world not of our own.

NMCs given out to UFAs I would say just help to make a potentially bad situation worse. Burke seemed adamant about not handing out full NMCs, and stated that if it meant the difference between signing someone and not signing someone, then the UFA could sign elsewhere.
I actually think he is right. The only full NMC this year that I would think about giving out would have been to Stamkos, and even then it might end up haunting the Flames towards the end.
I subscribe to the logic that a team drafts and develops their own core, and everyone brought in as a UFA should be pieces that compliment the core. Complimentary pieces (again, IMO) should never have NMCs.
I will be surprised if Gaudreau and Monahan have full NMCs built into their contracts (though, IIRC, the clauses would only kick in at age 26).

Burke isn't the GM so who cares what he thinks about NMCs.

I believe Burke spoke as part of the Flames organization when stating that, not speaking as to what he personally thinks. So yes, you can expect that it is something that the Flames have instituted, not just what Burke prefers.

Well obviously not enough since he gave a 2/3rd liner a NMC.

Treliving has not given out a single NMC throughout his tenure. He gave Brouwer a full NTC for 2 years and a limited one the final 2 years.

You just took a quote from one Farley character, and an image of another Farley character. Get your facts straight.
Edit: Also Brouwer.

You may not be aware, but Brauer and Brouwer are homonyms.
I guess I'm not "witty" enough for you, I have no "charm" or "appeal". I'm not "smart" or even "the average". I don't "pee in the potty". I'm not "clean". I don't "smell good". I'm not "polished" or "prepared". I have nothing "interesting to say". I guess I don't "play the game"
