Isis took a huge hit evacuating from Fallujah, hundreds of vehicles and occupants blown up by the U.S., my guess is they activated every plot they had in the works as retribution.

That is the general sentiment I'm seeing in the news right now. ISIS is increasing their activities right now because of the recent losses they have had (land, equipment and personnel.) There seems to be a lot of tension and very high levels of security at the major 4th of July celebration today in the USA.

I thought it was 151 dead and 35 missing. Either way, it's a terribly large number.

This thread reminds me how primitive a large number of humans are. Sometimes I think about human achievements over the centuries and I am simply amazed how advanced the species is. Then I read about the constant senseless killings and hardship of oppressed peoples around the world and I can't help but think that we are still primitives. And that is depressing.

Humans killing other humans is just such an abomination. It's like an affront to the nature of things. We have a brain, reason, and language. Use that to fix your problems.

Has to do with Ramadan. The extremists see an increased opportunity to hit large crowds and increase overall suffering during a holiday. Ramadan also has religious significance to extremists as a time for jihad:

We have been - violence has been trending down for centuries. And it isn't oppressive societies that are most dangerous, but anarchic ones. You need to read this book:

The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined

I don't disagree at all violence has been tending down.

What I'm saying is that it's appalling that in this day and age, people are still killing each other for religion, and societies still execute criminals.

I guess my expectation for humanity is that given how much we've collectively achieved, we'd be past all this nonsense by now.

Until world leaders grow some balls and expose religion as a stupid thing to follow people will still die in it's name.

That is a bit rash. Jesus Christ didn't go around leading armies into battle during holy months of jihad. Pretty peaceful message from Him.

No, you're being way too polite.

It was a dumb f__king comment attempting to advance a (religiously) fanatical anti-religion agenda. Zero tolerance for broad brushed prejudice.

Plenty of battles have been led in the name of Christianity.

That being said freedom of thought requires tolerance towards religion.... Until it infringes upon the rights of others. Then the state needs to step in.

Yeah, "god with us" is a little different than killing in the name of religion. That's basically the equivalent of "break a leg".
