I have a hard time believing that was a legitimate factor.

Who were also taking up valuable development spots in the AHL.

But those guys aren't really considered promising prospects or high-end potential prospects and are basically significant longshots to make the NHL.

Have to agree here. Raymond was both effective in the AHL, and brought a good attitude. Treliving was stating that they will be looking at signing guys to fill holes in the AHL as well. Would make sense to just to keep an already signed Raymond who was doing well down there.
The cap being a factor is what makes the most sense. I am sure that Treliving has something up his sleeve and is making the cap room for it.

I don't like to see anyone's career go this way, but I'm glad the Flames have made the decision. Wish him the best of luck.
I would be the worst general manager ever with far too much emotion involved to make a hockey decision that had to be made!

Can we hero chart this thread please?
I'd like to see where Raymond stacked up vs. Bollig/Bouma/Stajan.
Thanks

With the way the CDN$ is these days & the economy struggling as it is the owners may have been happy to save a bit of real coin.
Raymond & Wideman are solid reminders to Treliving of the pitfalls of chucking loads of salary at average UFAs.

Yeah, they save $1.05 million in real dollars. Plus, they save $1.15 million in cap hit for this season if he had been buried in the AHL again. The downside is the addition of $1.05 million in cap hit for 2017-18.

IIRC 2017-18 is far more manageable though.

Yes, Wideman, Smid, and Engelland are all off the books.

Raymond signed before Hudler and Russell.
Unbelievable.

Really? I like Raymond but I find that very difficult to believe. He wasnt even a standout AHLer.

Setoguchi got signed by the Flames well after being awful. Whoever signs Raymond will be saying the same stuff we said about Setoguchi "Low risk, maybe he finds his game and scored 20! If not waive him and forget about it"
