I don't disagree. I was referring to Wideman. He's too slow and washed up but he has a nmc and belongs on the third pairing.

Agreed. Plus I think Ortio still has potential. Let him play 15 games or so.

There is no need to rush an extension. I think he will do great but lets see how he does first.

I would normally agree, but in this case he said he likes hearing it and it gets him amped up, so I say give'r.

Very excited about this trade.

May have been asked somewhere but why has Elliot not ever played more than 46 games in a year?? Injuries? Gets worn out? Two goalie system? Is there any way we will be able to get 60 games out of him?

2 goalie system and some injuries as well. He thinks he can play more. Blues tried Halak, Miller, Allen but it was Elliott who got them over the hump and past the Hawks.

Brian Burke had a pretty good quote about this:

Quote:
"He’s had to fight for the net … because management has always felt there’s a goaltender there that’s his equal,” said Burke. “That’s certainly not the situation with us.”

I think we will all look back on the debacle of 05/06 season within a year or two and say oh well at least we got Tkachuk by having such a high 1st pick and Elliott for our high 2nd pick. Both nice rewards for such a frustrating season!

Agreed. I would quite comfortable with Ortio behind him. How would others feel about bringing Ramo back?

I think its plan B if Ortio doesn't work out. He'd be cheaper then a Moose/Reimer combo.

Timing of Ramo coming back from his knee may give the Flames that extra month or so to see if Ortio can handle the NHL backup role.

Wouldn't hurt them to kick tires on both options.

I lost faith in Ramo a long time ago and would rather not pay him 4 million to be backup. I would rather just stick with Ortio and use the extra money elsewhere.

I don't see a fit.

Dollars-wise, he's earned more than we're able to pay him next season. Ramo deserves a ~2.7 million dollar contract - he is a legitimate 1B goaltender.

He also pushes Ortio out, who age-wise is still younger than a guy like Corey Crawford was in his first true shot at the NHL. If you decide to send Ortio down, now you've created a log jam in Stockton with Gillies, Ortio, Rittich (..and McDonald).

Finally I think Ramo has earned an opportunity to play more games than he likely would for us. Ramo's in the prime of his career, he wants to be at least part of a tandem.

I wish Ramo the best and I think he's a deserving NHL goaltender. But he does not fit going forward. I would however, if he remains unsigned, invite him to camp and give him some preseason games to show he's healthy. I hope a team like Anaheim gives him a go.

Ramo's salary last year was higher than Elliott's by 1.1m

Treliving is just asking for trouble doing this again with Ortio still in the fold. Remember that Ramo was on waivers after just 3 starts last season.

I'm comfortable with them banking on Ortio, unless a very cheap & efficient alternative becomes available.

A Hutton or Montoya would be a good insurance policy, in case Elliott struggles with the workload required, but Ortio has shown he's capable when the team shows confidence in him.

Who on earth would pay Ramo $4.0 m? I would certainly agree that he would be a terrible option at that cost, but he did win 17 games last year, and by all counts was a terrific team player.

Not sure I understand the Ramo hate if he were to sign on as a backup. Ramo > Ortio in my opinion.

Of course I wouldn't want him as a 1B though. The net needs to be Elliot's.

I think you'd be able to get Ramo for cheap, with his injury and good team will. He'd be on a pretty cheap contract.
