I wouldn't. I could see why others might. But IMO the role that Hamilton plays (and could play in the future) on this team is infinitely more important than what a player like Hall brings to the table.

But wanting it doesn't make it a necessity. And so why would you trade necessary pieces (like Hamilton) for it?

I wouldn't trade Hamilton for #4+Hall, much less the other way around. You get a worse player, who is older from a poisonous organization which he has played a large part in poisoning, and the HOPE that #4 will turn into a half decent player, which is not even close to guaranteed.
How's that?

Maybe work a trade with the Flames for Dougie Hamilton? That door doesn't close today, does it?

Frankly, I don't believe that door is open unless the trade is an obvious win for the Flames. Particularly to their biggest rival.

If Hamilton is being traded, it will have something to do with a goalie and be part of a much larger deal than moving up a spot or two in the draft. I can't see the organization being willing to part with an asset that they valued enough to trade a first round pick for last year already in a move up scheme.

You could trade hall
you could trade 4
Asset wise you HAVE to trade DH for Hall and #4
value wise its an absolute steal for the Flames...there is no way the Oilers do it so its not really worth the argument I guess

Who said necessity? Did I say it was necessary to trade him? Did I even say it was a good idea to do so? Did I say anything about trading Hamilton other that some of people here vastly overrate his value?
Come on now....lets have a discussion and not a pissing contest.

Considering it would take #4 plus the door does close today
its fine, take all the time you guys need...go into the season with a team of flashy forwards again and see how that works out for the 10th year? 11th?

How so?
Can't the Flames work a deal for Hamilton next week or month?
Any other Dmen out there or are the Flames the only team with a potential #1?

what if we trade Hamilton and 6th for 4th and Draisatl
then send drai to cbj for their 3rd
so what is better Hamilton/Nylander or Pul/juolevi

Right, because the Oilers could not make a package that does not include a #4 in 2016 entry draft. What if they pick the guy Treliving wants?

I can't imagine a team trading a top d-man without a high end pick involved...#4 plus is the only thing I can even fathom
so no, can't be next week

And no, I am not saying that Treliving has to make a trade. I am just commenting on the ridiculous offers that are being discussed if a trade were to happen.

The ridiculous ideas being floated all around this should indicate something about the chance that Hamilton will be traded to the Edmonton Oilers. It is not happening.

Lol not sure where you're getting a "pissing contest" other than people disagreeing with you about the value of Hamilton.
The value is not based on Hamilton himself, its based on the needs of the two trading parties, their relationships to each other, the timing, what the trading partner has the ability to trade etc..
Hamilton for the #4 OA really only helps the Oilers. The player available at #4 is not projected to be much (if at all) better than the player at #6. So you make a trade for a pick that really holds no value to your franchise, while giving up a player that you need. As soon as we trade Hamilton, we now need a player exactly like him. So you can take the risk that one of the players you choose at #4 or #6 becomes what he is, or you can just keep him and pick at #6 and not help your biggest rival acquire exactly what they need.
I think you're really overvaluing #4. Like, big time.
