Elliot is one I haven't given much thought too, and I don't know why, I'm pretty big on him. Would be cheaper to get than Bishop, probably Fluery too, and I'd say he's much better than the latter, and closer to Bishop than a lot would admit

He's only 1.5 years older than Bishop. I go with the guy that has a lower acquisition cost, easy.
EDIT: and he's younger than Fleury
EDIT EDIT: dang, now all I want is Elliott

If the flames did go the Elliot route, I wonder if they would go after Reimer also ? I can't see flames going with Elliot and Ortio.

I hear you, I've flip flopped on the goalie situation so many times, at this point I'd be happy with any one of the rumoured names out there

Why do you see Elliot / Ortio less likely than BLANK / Ortio combo for the Flames?

I would have to assume it's because Elliot has only ever started over 50 games in a season once in his career. He's always been a guy that splits the games and never a bona fide starter.

Because Elliot has only played more than 50 games in a season once and that was 6-7 years ago. The other goalies mentioned like Bishop and Fleury play around the 60 game mark.

One thing I don't think gets mentioned enough is contracts too. Both are UFA's next summer, but what's Bishop likely to get? Like, 7 mil? Worth it sure but yikes, that's a lot. Like others have mentioned though, can Elliot be THE guy? He seems to split duties, likely a reason for that. Can Ortio take up the other side sufficiently? Or even Ramo once healed?

The topic was how there's no point in posturing because all the GM's are smart and acutely aware of the supply/demand scenario realizing it's a buyers market. Seems wanting 6th overall doesn't fit the intelligence mould here. That's all I was getting at.

Here's some interesting stats for you. In Bishop's four years in Tampa, 195 games played, he's had a .922 S% and a 2.24 GAA. In Elliott's five years in St. Louis, 180 games played, he's had a .925 S% and a 2.01 GAA.
Again, Elliott is terribly under-rated here.

Look at his numbers up until the moment he joined STL. They're Hilleresque.
And as pointed out by other posters he only played more than 50 games once. Less games and more rest and I'm not surprised his stats are a bit better. But I think we want a guy that's proven to be able to handle the majority of starts and maintain the numbers.

Man people are really sour on Ortio. He had a decent season once Bob was basically forced to play him. I'd have no problem with him playing 20-30 games.

Look at his age as well. Frankly, I don't give a damn what he did prior to the NHL. What has he done in the past three or four years. That is all that matters, and he's been great. And who gives a rip about if he has played a max of 50 games? That was a team decision. I'm sure we can play him more if we need to. But we are also going to finding a capable backup. It's not like he should have to play that many games if Treliving does his job.
Given the choice of Ben Bishop at $7M or Brian Elliott at $3M, I'll take Elliott and use that extra $4M to shore up our forwards and defense.

Andersen and Reimer both play half seasons as well. It's not that uncommon if a tandem is your structure.

Where is Elliot on bingos chart? That will help me determine if I like him or not

Watch him play lights out as a backup next year, only to lose him to Vegas because we have to leave him exposed

All indications is that the Flames still aren't sold on him. Been said on 960 and by me. I said mid season I had caught wind that management was extremely disappointed in the threesome and at that they were planning to go clean slate at the position. The only way Ortio comes back I feel is if they acquire a starting goaltender on a big contract and can't fit in an experienced backup's salary. If they have to go with a guy like Reimer I feel they will also bring in a more experienced backup goaltender.

Elliott and Reimer would probably come in at a combined cap hit of $5.5m-$6.5m. I would very happy with a tandem like that.
