Not only is he perfect suitable for the role, he'll be the right price for the Flames to make bigger moves elsewhere (extensions, acquisitions etc). He should be under $850k

They could also sign Reimer for 2.5 to 3 per year for 2 years. If upgrade is needed, they can go after Bishop (or other goalies) in January when his trade value would likely be less. Flames can then get an extension agreed upon and trade for him. They can then protect Bishop and expose Reimer in the Expansion Draft. If Reimer get picked up in the Draft, then the Flames win out as they can only lose one player to Vegas as per rules.

My feeling is that if a deal isn't done this weekend that Reimer will be signed on July 1st. Treliving can't go through what happened last year when he signed Ramo and thought he had a deal for Hiller that fell through. If he doesn't trade for a goaltender this weekend there is no assurance that he will be able to do so over the summer so he can't afford to be left empty handed. The situation was always going to play out this weekend one way or another.

He's not old now, but after next season he's going to want to sign a big, long-term contract. The odds of him being an overpaid Ryan Miller-esque millstone in 5-6 years are high.

Maybe just give Sureloss his own thread that nobody can add to?

That is actually really decent idea imo.

You are probably right but the same thing applies to Giordano and his deal. GM's like to keep an eye to the long term future but most moves are still made in mind of the near future.

Typically new threads are started if there's anything substantive or new. Not a bad idea tho

Re:Reimer- Sounds like management is considering Reimer if all else fails. Not because they dislike Reimer, but know Reimer can demand a 7 year deal on the open market. They arent afraid to pay cash for a goalie but know it will likely cost them above market value if they want shorter term.
Its an option, but not their first option.
Sounds like they want Bishop but arent going to pay more than what TO paid for Andersen. Says Andersen trade set the market price.

Aren't the Flames pretty much the only team looking for a goalie now though...that gives them a fair bit of power on length of term. Or do you see it playing out differently?

I doubt you'll see Reimer sign for anything less then 4 million this summer, even the wizard probably couldn't snag a deal like that.

If the Flames are able to acquire Bishop I really hope we can sign him to a 4 year extension. I really don't want to go 6-7 years

Agreed. We'd have to pay a lot, but if we can keep the term at 4 years it'd be a huge win.
4 years, 7M per.

Sure, but Reimer isnt the only option come July 1 also. So the Flames are in a great spot.
That doesnt mean they can count on Reimer taking whatever they throw at him, and they shouldnt. They have to consider that Reimer can ask for whatever he wants and stick to his guns, regardless if he lands a job with that stance or not. The Flames cant bank on it.
So therefore, would have like to have something that will be a bit more certain. But isnt a absolute must ATM.
Says market on goalies opening up quite a bit also since expansion rules are official.

I was thinking 4 years 30M which is $7.5M per. I definitely think he would come in at least $7M but would want $8M or a longer term deal bwith Gillies being likely ready in 3 years I think 3-5 years is the most we can do on an extension

4 years is a tough sell to a 30 year old - he'll want 6 or 7

The only competent Flames goalies I know are Vernon and Kiprusoff. If we get 7 years of Bishop I'd take it immediately. Our history of goalies is depressing.

it's not just the AAV - it's the term that scares me. He'll look for a long-term contract. Paying him 6-7m/year over 5-6 years? Yikes.
