Pass to taking on bad deals. How many people can't wait for Wideman's deal to expire would want to go through this again with a worse player in Clarkson? Simply not worth it.
Treliving has to realize the Flames lost in the lottery and accept it as the Flames will still get a good player at 6. Taking on these bad contracts is silly talk as there's a bigger picture here than Puljujarvi who IMO isn't that much better of a player than say Nylander or Juolevi to risk handicapping your salary cap situation.

Done. Hartnell is exactly the type of veteran scoring/power forward with snarl that this team has been missing for years. He might be slow these days, but as long as he can park in front of the net or dig in corners, he can be attached to any trade he wants. The guy is a 20 goal scoring machine, even on bad teams. Watch what happens when you put Gaudreau on the opposite wing.
Also picking up the 3rd overall? Yes, thank you, I will happily take that.

At least's Holik's was only 5 years, and Clarkson is half the player Holik was.

And there was no salary cap when Holik signed his deal.

They did that to dump an equally bad Nathan Horton contract.
The Leafs could put Horton on LTIR and clear his cap space (without worrying about how much they actually paid him because they're the Leafs), and the Jackets were at least getting a player who could play for them while they're paying him way too much money. The fact that he'd only play 23 games last year was unknown at the time.

Hartnell would be an amazing addition to this team as a player and mentor. Hell yes!

Problem is that a wet fart is probably just a useful as Clarkson.
I understand the logistics of the trade from an ownership standpoint, but I don't like how Clarkson takes away a spot from somebody who is probably more worthy on the farm.

The only reason CBJ took it was because Horton's wasn't insured and he was never going to play again. So they were shelling out money for their stupidity.
Clarkson at lease could be a warm body.

Yes I agree with those above. Clarkson is bad enough of a contract and a player that I wouldn't make that trade. Hartnell however still has value and use.

I don't think any team will take on Clarkson at this point and if they do, it'll make their team worse... I think the Flames can take hartnell and add value too.
I think they'll do it.

Is Tyutin an option? Not as good as Hartnell but not total dead weight like Clarkson. And would add a physical element to the blueline
