Have you been downtown lately? So many shrunken suit dudes strutting about.
They all look terrible too. Don't see too many as far gone as Strombo, tbh.

Strombo is the most fashionable personality I've ever seen on Sportsnet. Period. Extremely attractive sense of style. If your criticism is about tight suits and involve the word "hipster," that's strictly a petty age/out of touch thing.
Nah, I'm young(ish?) and his suits stink. I can (and do) talk about fashion all day if you want.
Saying he's the best dressed Sportsnet personality ain't saying much. Can't think of too many groups of people more poorly dressed than athletes or sports reporters. Onrait was the maybe the best (other than Cherry, duh) off the top of my head. Best dressed coach, maybe Eakins, which explains why he and Hall got in that waterbottle tiff. "This tie is Italian, goddammit!" Can't think of any well-dressed players.
Strombo tries too hard, which is rarely a good look.

You do understand there are cuts between garbage bag and shrunk-in-the-wash right?
Seeing as Strombo is under contract anyway, why wouldn't they try more of a tandem move - still lever Strombo's hipness and appeal to the millennials while also levering Mclean's hockey knowledge. Shouldn't have to be one or the other.
Is this even a thing? I don't know anyone that cares about Strombo's clothes or his "edginess" regardless of age.

Doesn't seem natural it comes across as forced. Maybe that's his genuine personality but I don't get that vibe, not on HNIC anyway.
Really? Then I don't know if I'd want to talk to you about fashion
Lundqvuist, Erik Karlsson, basically 95% of the Swedish players.
Seguin has style.
Letang has improved.
Subban is bold but pulls it off.
The Swedes though, usually fire.
Lundqvist - sometimes okay, suits are too tight. Seems like he has an interest in clothes, but could do better. Though, he could wear a burlap sack with that face and would look A++
Karlsson - best hair, looks bad in a lot of google pics, but good in some, therefore better than most.
Seguin - nah, but very handsome.
Letang - not a lot of pics, but doesn't look too good. Great hair too.
Subban - dresses with personality, which is nice, but these guys have to stop trying to dress like 6'0, 150lb fashion models. The guy is 6'0+, 210lbs+ and his lapels are sub 2". Proportions are all wrong.
I think you just picked the best looking guys in the league.
Sportsnet is just bad. They screwed up by taking guys like Ron McLean off, and now they're screwing up by taking Strombo off. These guys aren't the problem. Poor production and poor Canadian teams are the problem. Plus taking Casey Campbell off, Kevin Weekes, and other talented people and replacing them with Cox and Doug McLean wasn't smart either lol
Rogers should splurge and see if they could get James Duthie as the host. I think he does a fantastic job on TSN's panel, and is wasted there now that they don't have the NHL nationally.

Getting rid of Weekes was one of the few good things they did. He was awful as an analyst.
They've been slowly reducing Cox's airtime, and hopefully he's gone altogether because of his Twitter incident.
I might be out to lunch, but I'd like to see Jeff Marek get more hosting duties. He's the one guy they have who I think has the potential to replace Ron Maclean.
Yeah, these are the types I was talking about. Do people honestly like how tight suits have become? Like am I crazy for thinking we've gone too far with it? It has nothing to do with wanting "garbage bag" cuts, just a little more natural fitting on average would be nice.
Man, I'm taking this thread way off topic, but I'm totally on the other side of your argument. I think suits nowadays finally fit properly. I've always hated how droopy and ugly they looked back then. People always wore suits that fit way too big for them. The shoulder seams would droop halfway down their shoulders.
I'm not talking about the ultra skinny suits, just ones that actually fit properly. If you want a picture of a guy rocking a perfect fitting suit, see Harvey Specter from Suits. That's how all suits should fit.

Strombo is just not a hockey guy. He tried to do his homework and did well in that, but in the end it seemed like he was just reading cue cards.
It's just like Justin Bieber doing a hockey show, no matter how good his stuff was it would always feel fake. Maybe unfairly.
Ron is a HNIC guy, we all know him, we all see him skate on his segments (can Strombo even skate?)...the guy is a legend, like him or not.
Old guy alert...I hope Cherry lives to 120 so we can continue to watch him. Yup,he says a lot of bad things, but he is a legend for a reason.
Hrudey is the new blood, like him a lot. Groom him to take over some day.
Friedman, everyone loves him here. He is the type you never trust around the office, always kissing everyone's butt. He and Hrudey could make a good duo.
Miss Strachan on the panel, used to love to hate that guy.
What I find amazing is that next year will be 30 years since MacLean took over from Dave Hodge as the host of HNIC. He's only 56 now, which means he was 27 years old when he started at HNIC.
Now, that's a suit, my friends.

Turn up the good, turn down the suck!
Ron will have to cut down on taking up all the airtime. He did it in his final years of CBC, and then all but took over Hometown Hockey.
He's supposed to ask a leading question or throw it to one of the people on the panel/co-host about something, but then gets into a story/has his opinion about it. He remembers another related aspect of the story (usually obscure), then doesn't finish that thought entirely, because he knows it will take too long to further explain, and this point he tries to backtrack, and tries to get the original thought back on track, and after all is said and done, leaves 20 seconds less of airtime for the person who was supposed to talk, to talk.
When you're dealing with large panels, short times for each to get their words in to talk, you want the former players to be the ones providing the words, not the host; Ron was getting in the way (unintentionally).
Strombo had a younger hipper look, and for a rebrand, there had to be a fresher look to things, and he was just there to be a traffic cop. For the most part, especially after the Saturday night late games, Friedman/Hrudey/Kypreos had a good longer format chatter for 10+ minutes, which you don't get between periods, and all Strombo was to do the basic leading questions and let those guys talk..Maclean has to make sure he does the same and not get too much in the way with his opinions/anecdotes.

I disagree. He just simply isn't his own person. It's not a generational thing. He towes the party line and falls into the latest trends for the biggest gains. There are on-air personalities, and then there is George, who doesn't have one. He's great at being an impartial intro, but there was never any substance to it or emotion. Wish him the best though..
For avoidance of doubt - I see the misspelling and the expression is "toes the line", not "tows the line" and pretty sure it is also not "Toews the line", even if your hockey adjusted autocorrect should so desire

Who was providing Rob Kerr his suits? Mr. Big & Tall?
Haha. Awesome. Well played.
I don't recall the endorsement at the end of those broadcasts, personally suspect he expensed those using his allowance for kilometres driven in personal vehicle after driving up to call a game against the Oil.
Strombo was not a hockey guy, but McLean is definitely an Oilers guy.
Therefore this move is disappointing.
I don't think that's true? He's said some pro-Oilers comments for sure but McLean is, or at least was, an out and out Flames fan. At least according to his last book.
