Got a chance to golf the Calgary Golf and Country next week. Pretty excited. Any one else played there? Any insight (other than strict adherence to dress code and no cell phone policy (awesome))?

I golfed there many years ago, it was another world for me.
The burgers at the turn were some kind of awesome.
If you dig older ladies who drive German cars, then it is a great place to meet chicks.

Get a milkshake at the halfway house and grab some liquorice from the mens locker room.
Haven't played there for a while, but it's a fun track. Greens can be quick. It's peaceful out there, enjoy it.

Fantastic experience, absolutely go into the men's locker room, and as mentioned grab a milkshake or soft serve ice cream at the turn. If you're not playing with someone who has charging privileges and you don't have reciprocal charging set up, just be aware they don't take cash and you'll have to arrange that ahead of time.
No cell phones is an excellent policy. Like stepping back in time. Love the view on #9 and #18.
If you need a fourth I'll take a day off work. ;-)

Very jealous of Calgary G and C!
What're some opinions of Valley Ridge? Never played it, but going next weekend.

Well that's too bad. Glad they still rolled ok and you enjoyed it. 94 is decent, the little shots around the greens can add up out there.

I think VR has the best 18 hole layout in town and the quality of the course is good. You can play twilight to try it out.

Yeah, in Calgary, not counting those in Canmore like Silvertip or Stewart Creek. I like VR better than Countryhills, Elbow Springs, Heather Glen, Lynx Ridge and by default, VR is better than any muni courses. I haven't played Silver Springs and Glencoe so they could be better. But VR's layout is pretty good to me.

Are you referring to the two back 9 par 3s where you shot up and down?
Come think of it, hole 10 is kind of gimmicky.

Hmm, I'm not usually a fan of gimmicky courses. Hate Springbank, for example.
Played Delacour this week - didn't feel it was up to its usual conditioning and was a little disappointed. Greens were slower than usual.

I played Valley Ridge once and didn't know why people were recommending it. It was expensive, wasn't in good enough shape to justify the price, there were a few nice holes but overall the layout just kind of struck me as disjointed. A group of holes together, a hole between houses to link it to a few more holes together. I just didn't see the appeal.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess (pun intended).

Tend to agree with others. It's a pretty disjointed course and it does have a couple of gimmicky holes. All in all its not a bad course but certainly not a top pick of mine, especially at the price.
Greens are usually pretty good though.

6, 8, 10, 11, 16 and 17 are all gimmicky. For the price point and typical conditions, I'll only play on someone else's dime. Plus it's location in Calgary gets more windy, rainy weather.

Has anyone used GolfTEC to improve their game? They currently have a Father's day special. Swing assessment for $95 (regular $125). Was thinking of hitting that up. Any reviews?
