I recognize the lobby and the stairs. It's right next to Central Grand.

The reason you see these events covered more extensively now in the news media is because there is a complete lack of investigative journalism being conducted in North America now.

The constant now with the news is waiting for things to happen. A 'slow news day' should be a phrase of mockery in a newsroom, tv or otherwise, but instead is actually lamented as if it were real.

There is plenty of news out there, some of it quite upbeat, but that requires actually going out and finding it, understanding it, researching it and developing it as a story.

Ain't nobody (wearing a suit in a board room) got time (money) for that.

Keep the news van fueled up and wait for something to happen, then, go gawk it and speculate about what happened.

Holy crap... I just ate dinner at Central Grand a few days ago, saw an old family friend who manages it... He's in one of the pictures and looks understandably distraught. My first thought was I hope he wasn't hurt. Doesn't appear so based on that photo. Condolences to the families involved.

Take this with a grain of salt, heard rumor it was related to a doctor stabbing victim because he messed with doctor's wife. The two other people guys were bystanders trying to intervene.

Maybe mixed up the details. Heard it through rumors from a few people.

Even one of the cops kind of insinuated that to be the case saying something along the lines of "you could draw your own conclusions, it being domestic in nature".

Yeah, everyone involved knew each other and it was a domestic incident, despite being in public. Not just some random lunatic with a knife randomly stabbing people.

Crazy, let's be thankful at least this isn't the U.S and the guy didn't have easy access to guns. I feel like this is a situation you can easily compare the differences a gun law makes.

I agree, I think the increase of reported incidents is directly tied to social media and the ease of information access. Before this, there was a certain amount of control over what the authorities released for information. Not anymore. Its a new open sourced world we live in where the worst scenarios get more headlines because the reaction to get it out there is instant.

You don't see live tweets of firefighters saving kittens the moment it happens and going viral.
