I hate Hillary, but in no way do I think she would be a disaster. Hated, reviled, mocked, and probably somewhat irrelevant/ineffective for being those things, but her hubby did a great job, and I think she'd be fine overall despite being a corrupt, mainstream politician.
Now Trump - the only true disaster.
I absolutely believe that Hillary will be a massive disaster. The question needs to be asked about whether they're electing Hillary as President or Bill. She basically said she's going to hand the economy off to Bill, so is that job too difficult for her. As a Secretary of State she was fairly weak as well.
On top of that besides being corrupt she's an unashamed liar. The email scandal won't go away any time soon, and the main reason is she keeps lying with the latest news being reported that she lied about asking for permission to use her own email server.
Trump won't be any better, I believe that no matter what the choice the US is heading into four years of the worst president that that poor country has ever seen.

The hysterics are there because people still think it matters who gets in. Some things around the edges may be different, but in the end, both parties are the same.
The only one that would legitimately be scary in power, with a right wing house, would be Cruz because he's a zealot. Trump getting elected is more scary because people elected him as opposed to what he'd actually do.

I think Trump would be like the dog who chases cars.. if he actually catches one he wouldn't know what to do with it! He likes running for and winning being President, but probably not so much being President.
One reason why I don't think Trump would be a disaster, the VP will end up doing everything!

I truly believe we're eventually going to get to a point where Canada could actually see serious ramifications from a president, so in that respect I think Canadians may actually need to care about presidential elections more than Americans, going forward, lol.
Canada and the US have always had decent enough relations in the past, but I think we've been seeing the US care less and less about that relationship as they get more and more desperate to save their own economy. I could honestly see a day where things get bad enough in the West with globalization that the US starts stomping us out a little, out of necessity and convenience.
We've seen hints of it so far under Obama, but someone like Trump could come out and go after our industries and attempt to move as much south as possible and actually significantly hurt us. I could also see the average American agreeing with and supporting it as well, as people tend to be nationalistic and only care about their own fellow citizens and Trump has a lot of "He's a business man, he's got our backs, he'll take care of us" support.
Obviously, his actual abilities are very questionable, but if that were his focus we could definitely get hurt.
At the end of the day, neither of these possible presidents is really going to be a good friend to Canada, Hillary will just take us more for Granted. Trump will probably invade us and turn us into a tacky country wide golfclub and resort.

Clinton has never been a friend of Canada. Remember, she was the one who pushed the lie the Sept. 11 attackers had crossed into the U.S. from Canada. And the unions who make up her base are extremely protectionist.

Its really not hard to see why he gets away with it.
Hillary is as corrupt and crooked as they come. She represents everything that is wrong with Washington and politics in general. She has lied, cheated and stole her way to where she is now. Trump is not part of that establishment, nor is he coming across as either crooked or corrupt.
this is the kind of comment you see hundreds of times on Fox.

I think that this conversation the last few pages is exactly the false - and, to my mind, ridiculous - equivalency the dialogue in the States will take prior to the election.
Republican strategists, having realized that nominee Trump has been chosen on the basis of an imaginary wall funded by Mexico and the outlaw of Muslims entering the US, will seek to make the conversation a comparison between two awful candidates. This is a familiar tactic to Republicans and the Right in the States anyway: all viewpoints are equal, right? Like Intelligent Design and Evolution both being theories and all.
But the thing is: Clinton sucks. But she is not a psychotic populist idiot with insane theories. She simply isn't. I'm sure the dialogue in the States will have that tenor and will be full of "who is worse?" discussions (here too, as we've seen), but the fact is that Trump is on a completely different scale of awful for the world, US and Canada, and I don't think it should be forgotten.
