Yeah, but to be fair, he's probably talking about this from the Panthers' perspective. There's been a lot of upheaval over the last few weeks, and this is just another part of major changes.

I do think hes a good drafter

but this trade and Shinkaruk/Granlund are both value vs upside

Gudbranson is a 4th d man and putting him with a great puck mover like Hutton should work, but McCann as a 19 year old put up number that a lot of guys who turned in to very good scorers did, he may be too small, he may end up on the wing, or he may be Logan Couture

Granlund is going to slot in as their 4C next year and in that role he's above average at it and could at times move up to the 3rd line and not look out of place, but Shinkaruk might end up a 25-30 goal scorer, he may also end up an AHL goal scorer but the chance for success is there

he's been lucky so far that his trades so far don't look super bad because the pieces he's given away haven't turned out great, but it is an issue, and it means he needs to keep hitting on the draft like he has the last 2 seasons which is hard to do
Nick Bonino has 15 points in the playoffs. More than Sutter had all season.

Don't know about you but I'd rather have a guy who's good at hockey

Gudbranson is good. He's just not an "excellent" player. He is NOT Deryk Engelland, just similar styles and skill sets. Every team needs at least one bruiser on the back end.

Agreed.

The question is: would you trade Mangiapane and an early 2nd for him?

I would in a second. But what's our equivalent of Mccann?

I think this trade underscores what a bad trade the Oilers made last year.

16th OA roughly equivalent to or > McCann
33rd OA = 33rd OA
G. Reinhart < Gudbranson

Probably not going to happen, but....

Gudbranson can be UFA as early as July 1, 2018. #Canucks will need to sign him to a multi-year deal to delay him hitting market then.

All trades before and after underscore that

Funny I heard many Canuck fans talk about how he was a 1/2 centre but now he's traded and he's a 2/3.

The way that franchise over-rates the prospects they have at present (clearly starved for blue-chippers) is pretty amusing in the last few years.

Yes, and Horvat = or > Monahan.

I'm actually beginning to think that Logan Brown goes to the Nucks at 5. His father played for Vancouver as well with Linden, so there is some overlap. Him being a 6-6 center would make sense to replace McCann as they seem obsessed with size.

Why not? It's not like the Canucks picked up some veteran nearing retirement in the deal, Their defensive play was absolutely terrible and they addressed that need with a 24 year old defensive stalwart that will also bring them a much needed physical presence. That is a major move to try to stop them from being a bottom 5 team again.

I have a suspicion that Bolland gets moved in some sort of crap for crap deal in order to make room for McCann.
he can play in the AHL next year, the thought was if he stayed with the Canucks thats where he was going to start the season anyway

So now Brown goes ahead of Dubois?? Seems legit.

I thought Benning was a draft guy, because he sure as heck isn't a trade guy. If he's not a draft guy then Canucks are in for an Oilers esque decade long double rebuild.

Wouldn't surprise me, they were stupid to take Virtanen at 6, especially with Ritchie, Ehlers, and Nylander available behind him.

I just don't understand what the Canucks are trying to build. It's almost like their goal is to be a perennial 8-10 team. That's a lot to give up for a depth defender that has no offensive upside and it's not like their forward group is bubbling over with skilled players. I get that they will get a good forward at 5th overall but this is a build on the fly type of trade and Dubois or Brown aren't going to be able to help this team for a few years.
