No Islander fan would do that. That is awful. Your offer might be enough for Halak. Yet not 19th overall pick. Stajan has no value, he reduces value in trade.
Yes I would do that trade, it wont happen, cause if favors the Flames so much. Isle fans would propose that trade with our 6th overall pick included.
Overpayment, but if you want a goalie and are throwing a cap dump to them and want their first round pick, 6th overall gets it done. 2nd round picks wont.

Besides Gillies and McDonald we also have Nick Schneider in Medicine Hat. He also played 9 games for the AHL Heat. He didn't set the world on fire but did well for an 18 year old.

Yes the expansion draft is looming but that is over a year away. Goalies we want and teams that have them can wait till the last minute. They can wait all of next season and playoffs for that matter before doing a trade. They are in a position of strength right now, it decreases as days go by, but there are alot of days still available.
My choice of goalies to sign is Reimer. Not a huge fan and I am scared of the term. We need a stop gap. I am praying Gillies is the future. Praying for McDonald too. If these two prospects dont pan out were in trouble. Will be like the Oilers searching years for a goalie. Not trying to be dramatic. You dont win with out at least an average goalie.
Never the less I do believe average goaltending is good enough to get us into the playoffs and possibly a cup in a few years, or at least be a contender.
I would not give up our 6th overall pick for a goalie. Too much. Would give up all our second round picks though. Even then, thats a super high price to pay. Too many holes on the team to give up high draft picks. I dont see us trading for a goalie. Price will be to high.
We would be paying a massive price for a goalie who looks good now in a very small sample size. Scares me!

I agree with this. Yes expansion is looming but would a team like Pittsburgh bet the season on an unproven goalie, no matter how good he's looked so far? They can keep both and let it play out, even if it means risking MAF next year.
On the other hand a team that has solid 1A / 1B options like Anaheim or St. Louis could afford to deal one but would be less desperate to sell (for now) than a team like Calgary would be to buy.
Preparing for expansion now would be good asset management but needs to balanced against more immediate risks.

Actually salary savings from the Isles perspective has a lot to do with the proposal.
They trade away 4.5 mil / year backup goalie for a veteran 4th line center at 1.5mil/ year (salary retained by Flames ). They use the 3 million saved to help them sign a UFA winger for Tavares. Maybe Stamkos.
The picks would work out to 19th for 35th + 55th.

Here's the issue with Pittsburgh. MAF has a NMC, which means if he is still on the roster , they HAVE to expose Murray.I do not see that happening. I agree they could ride it through, but by then they're likely looking at a much lesser return then now, because teams know they have no choice.
If they truly believe that MAF is the one to keep, then they trade Murray , and again , much higher return now , than next year at this time.
They also have Zatkoff as a backup in waiting (if they re- sign him)
Anaheim is in a lesser boat , yes they could expose a great goalie but i think they have much more appealing players who will get taken before the goalie
St Louis is in the perfect position .. both contracts expire next season.. protect Allen the RFA-- if they wish , re- sign Elliot in Free agency as a UFA

As a Flames fan I do that deal instantly, so I don't know how eager the Isles would be.
We get rid of a soft aging center who's been bumped to 4th line on this team
We get a good quality veteran stop gap goalie
We get a pick that could be high enough to catch that late 1st round ledge people talk about

IDK, if the Islanders want to save salary then just offer a 3rd rounder for Halak. Stajan just muddies the water. And giving up a first rounder seems unrealistic and is kind of a separate trade.
Halak kind of intrigues me though.
