The Finn goalie looked good under pressure at the World's. Mikko Koskinen just re-signed with KHL team SKA for two more years though, so I guess that option is out.

What do you guys think about Sergei Bobrovsky, if the Jackets retained $2 million?

He does have a huge injury risk associated bit when he's on, he's lights out.

This thread is kind of depressing. Makes you realize how poor most of the options are out there. I hope Brad the Wizard can work his magic.

There is no magic bullet. Every single option has its pro's and con's. So get the guy who costs the least to acquire and can be kept on 2 years term (absolute max 3 years).

Draft Pick

I think the team with the biggest gun to their head is Pittsburgh.
If you believe Rutherford, then Fleury isnt going anywhere..meaning they have to trade Murray.he gets claimed for sure in an expansion draft, so does Fleury. One of those goalies has to be traded, so either of those id be happy with. The price will be good due to the pressure they will be under
I think Anderson is out of our reach, due to the fact Anaheim can control where he goes, and they'll send him East first chance they get
If we go the free agent route, then either of Reimer or Enroth would fit the bill

Yeah but Pittsburgh at least has both goalies signed for next year (combined $6.3 million) and Murray is cheap.
Same with Tampa as Bishop/Vasi are both signed for next season. ($6.9 million combined)
Same with St. Louis with both Elliot/Allen signed for next season ($4.85 million combined)
Detroit is the really interesting one for me. Cap team with an under performing starter already signed long term and Mrazek as an arbitration eligible RFA who will likely be looking for $4 million plus.

I still think in some capacity two Flames 2nd rounder and/or Gillies will be used for a young goalie.
No point in trading for a young goalie unless management isn't sold on Gillies in the next 1-2 years.

agreed, but the expansion draft will be the wild card . In a perfect world they keep both , but with the possibility of that , one has to go or they will lose one for nothing. MAF's NMC ensures that they either have to protect Fleury or trade him
I get your point on Detroit , but i dont see them giving up Mrazek.. and we want no part of Howard (I hope)

I'm thinking Tampa roll with bishop and Vasilevky next season, then protect vas, leaving bishop to sign with the leafs. Detroit have to do some serious cap management to sign Mrazek, or do a bridge deal and pay him more later. The pens are the one team in a real situation as Murray will definitely be taken if they don't get shot of MAF. Thing is, Fluery has the power to list all those teams already with decent goaltending as teams he's willing to go to.
I still feel MAF is more likely to be dealt though, but I think his return will be next to nothing or have salary retained.

I really don't see BT & co. moving Gillies. He is just coming off major hip surgery on his 1st pro year. Yes, he had good years in college, but hasn't been able to prove anything in the Pros. He is worth more to us than to anyone else at this point.

I heard the Islanders might join the Stamkos race in an effort to unite him with his childhood friend Tavares.
Seing as Greiss took over the no.1 job this year and they have Berube waiting in line, they might want to unload Jaroslav Halak and his 4.5mil contract for the next 2 years to make some cap room.
This Isles also have the 19th pick overall this year. Maybe someone high on the Flames list is available the time and Treliving jumps in and gets Halak AND the 19th pick.
Maybe offer them pick #35 + (some combination of another second, a B-prospect or salary going back)??

If the Isles want to ditch Halak the Flames should be in on it. And if it's to clear cap space for them, one of the lower 2nds or the Flames' thrid round pick should be able to get Halak into Calgarys net. I wouldn't want to pay too much to acquire him, he does have an injury history.

If I'm Reimer (or another goalie who's UFA or has NMC) would I sign with the Flames? Good young core, great D personnel (hopefully the new coach brings a more defensive system), no incumbent starter.... Yeah, I think Calgary would be very attractive. Who do would they be competing against?

Just booting around some sites and I get the feeling that Halak could be had for a 3rd round pick. Clearing his cap off the books is the real value for the Isles. I'd do it if I were the Flames. Then go out and get a slightly more established back up for cheap to work the stretch of games Halak will most likely be injured.

Both Halak and Stajan have 2 years left on their contracts.
Would you do a Halak + 19th for Stajan (some salary retained) + 35 and another 2nd?

Not really. The Flames can use their 3 2nds wisely in the draft and still walk out with Halak using their 3rd. Its good value. No, not good , excellent value. There's some real gems in the 2nd and the Flames can walk out wiith 3 of them. I'd kind of like them to use them.
