PL Dubois's coach talking him up. Sounds like tremendous off ice work ethic. Says Dubois is way ahead of Giroux and Mantha at the same age. Not sure he'll be a centre in the NHL. Already has NHL size/strength. Good speed but can always improve it. Can play the half wall on the PP or be the net front presence. Would be doing post game workouts when other players might be partying.
|
Interesting, I remember seeing somewhere that Vancouver was targeting a centre or defenseman, so not sure if they would go after Dubois if that was the case (I know, wishful thinking).

I only really started getting into the draft around '09 and the Erixon pick. Marcus Johanssen and Erixon were the two I had hoped for, was happy to get one of them. Hind sight being perfect, we really missed out on Johanssen.
2011 was great, Markus Granlund was on my wishlist. We got him, pretty happy then about that. And Sven was a good gamble seeing as the Flames really needed an injection of skill at the time.
2012, I was all about TT or Grigorenko. Got neither, and the Flames went and grabbed Jankowski. Was confused at the time but I don't think I was outraged.
2013, I was in the Lindholm or Nichushkin camp, wasn't sure about Monahan. Never been happier to see the team take none off my wishlist. What a player Monahan has been.
2014, Bennett, from maybe Novemeber on I was hoping Bennett and the Flames would cross paths. Fortune favored us that draft day, couldn't have been happier at the results.
2015, Barzal, Konecny, Svechnikov or Kylington. We got Dougie Hamilton and in a stroke of good fortune, Andersson AND Kylington! That was a fantastic draft weekend.

I started paying attention to the draft around 2011. That's when I started watching other pro leagues like the AHL, KHL, and Super Elit. On top of that I started religiously following Junior. Notably the Winter Hawks. I also started following college hockey, as Mr John Gaudreau was headed to Boston.
I was excited for the 2012 draft, simply because I followed a lot of the guys projected to be take with our pick. Mataa was my #1, followed by TT, then a bunch of other guys I was back and forth on including Janko, Collberg, and Seiloff. I was actually relieved to move down because there were still a bunch of guys left on the board I liked, and we recouped another pick. The Janko>Collberg pick confused me, but in Feaster we trust. With Mark committing to PC, I started following college hockey even closer.
2013 I wanted Nichushkin. Wanted no part of Monahan or Lindholm. I was sold on Chush.
2014 was a bonafide home run. I thought Bennett was going to go 2nd or 3rd. I had honestly resigned to drafting Draisaitl or Dal Colle. I was OK with picking Ritchie at that point too. Bennett falling to us was utterly astounding.
2015 is already shaping up to be our best draft, simply because we landed Dougie for no real cost, and landed two excellent prospects in Andersson and Kylington way WAY lower than I thought they were going to go.

Loubardias talked a bit of Mem Cup today and top prospects at the Mem Cup (Tkachuk, Juolevi, Nolan Patrick). Most notable thing is that he's talked to Brandon Coach/GM Kelly McCrimmon and McCrimmon says that Tkachuk is the most dominant forward he's ever seen at this level below the hashmarks.

This draft is going to be 2014 all over again, where our fate is decided by who the Oilers pick.

I think the Habs are going to go hard after the Oilers pick to get their French Canadien, Dubois. That way the Oilers should still be able to take a top defenceman and pick up an additional asset as well. I hope we can out bid Montreal if reasonable.
Of course if the Oilers take Tkachuk or a defenceman, the Habs will target the Canucks. Both teams have shown interest in taking a defenceman.

If Dubois is available at 5 there's no way van takes a pass IMO. He's the one guy we don't have a shot at getting at 6.

Yeah but the point of my post is that Edmonton or Vancouver could trade it to Montreal or us.

Ya fair enough. Poorly worded on my part. I just can't see Van trading the 5 pick if Dubois is available.

I had a dream last night that we traded the 6th pick to Florida for Luongo and I think Jagr and everyone on here threw a crazy hissy fit. Take it for what it's worth.

I'd trade the 6th pick to Florida for Luongo… plus a TARDIS, so I could go back and get Luongo in 2000.

A lot of eyes seem to be on Juolevi recently. This is likely as a result of him being on that dominant London Knights team.
I wonder what his chances of being the first defenceman drafted are
