Yeah, I don't see Dubois falling all the way to the Canadiens either.

I am preparing myself for a very disappointing draft. I hope the Flames pick well, but if these mock drafts are any indication, we're going to be very disappointed in what we get.

If your posting history is any indication, you'll by hypercritical of any pick the Flames make. We could have Laine land in our laps and you'd be angry we didn't trade the pick away for a ransom.
I really believe there will be a few hidden gems in the later rounds. I'll be disappointed if we don't pick one guy from my own list. And it's a broad list. I'm actually pretty excited for this draft. I don't think it's going to be as bad as a lot are making it out to be.

You mean you. There will be good players left at 6 and I have faith the Flames are doing their due diligence.

Now that I know we're not drafting any of the Big 3, and probably not Dubois either, I have a hard time getting excited about this entire draft. I'm sure there are some great players amongst the group that we'll look back on, but from a fan perspective, it's just not a draft that makes me drool with what-if scenarios.
I guess it partly has to do with the complete chaos of the 1st round rankings. There aren't many drafts where there are half a dozen guys you could draft at 6 could also realistically be there in the mid-teens. It makes that 6 pick feel a bit less special than it should.

I always enjoy the outrage during draft day. Its always ridiculous and way too early to analyze draft results.

Exactly. I think there are some good talents available, I just think they have been lost in the hype and noise of the build up to the draft. My point is that I think the hype is making it difficult for the team to select a player that will make everyone happy. I think AC hits it on the head when he says the outrage is going to be high, even though the player is years away from proving he pick right or wrong. I'm of the opinion that the Flames follow through on their promise and pick a guy like Logan Brown or Max Jones and profit in a couple years. Those picks won't make anyone happy.

Who has the hilarious Jankowski screen shot of the poster hysterically complaining about the pick and then the screen shot of the poster selecting him the week earlier as who the Flames should pick?

Well done. I don't think PLD slides, but who knows. I think there will be some intriguing prospects in the second round and I like who you have the Flames picking. The chaos of the latter first round and the rest of the second/third is going to be great.

"Oh, and his full name, for the record (via Elite Prospects):
Alexander Maximiliam Michael Junior Nylander Altelius"
That sounds like a Gundam character name.

rearrange the first letters and call him NAMJAM
I can see one of the guys from 4-6 ranking sliding down to the teens and someone from after 10 jumping up. All I know is the Flames will get a good player and I"m glad that it's not one of us who has to make the final decision.

I've honestly only been really happy on one or two draft days in my whole life.
Having said that there haven't been that many that I've been pissed about either. The biggest reason for a whole host of neutral opinions? I don't have a clue if it was a win or a loss for years.
1996 - was really worried that they went off the board for Morris.
1997 - liked the Tkaczuk pick actually but it was annoying not to get Samsanov
1998 - hated the Fata pick, one of the only times I've been annoyed by a Flames pick
1999 - loved the Savard deal and the Saprykin pick
2000 - didn't like the goalie from the Hitmen idea. Seemed like PR.
2001 - Kobasew, fine with it
2002 - Nystrom. Great name, boring draft
2003 - Phaneuf. Was pretty excited
2004 - Chucko ... had no clue
2005 - Pellech, no clue
2006 - Irving, didn't like a goalie in the first round
2007 - Backlund. Liked it, but worried about the knee
2008 - Nemisz ... yawn
2009 - Erixon, liked it
2010 - no first round pick
2011 - Baertschi, didn't know much about him
2012 - Jankowski. Was surprised, but liked the additional pick and Sieloff
2013 - Monahan. Was happy that they got him over Lindholm, but wasn't jumping up and down.
2014 - Bennett - the most exciting pick in Flames history. No coincidence that he's the highest pick. One of the big four, and the one I wanted over Draisaitl
Not a lot of joy or hostility to me.
This year feels the same. Don't have the top three to dream about, but they'll do fine.

Monahan and Bennett were the happiest I've been. I wanted Lindholm over Monahan, but it was the obvious right choice once Lindholm was gone at 5 and it's, in hindsight, clearly the better pick.

I'm assuming its a typo in the THN Draft Preview where the Calgary section is titled, "Straying The Course". LOL
Then did correctly nail our needs though.
"Johnny Gaudreau is the only winger with premiere offensive credentials. There are candidates in the system like Poirier, Mangiapane and Shinkaruk, but ideally the team needs a heavy-game winger or two who can finish or make plays alongside Monahan and Bennett."

Not a surprise to anyone, but holy crap is that some lousy drafting.

I think I was excited for Phaneuf (for a bunch of reasons), Monahan, Bennett and last year I was as excited as ever because they got Douggie. I've been happier with day 2 of the draft more than day 1 in a lot of years.

PL Dubois's coach talking him up. Sounds like tremendous off ice work ethic. Says Dubois is way ahead of Giroux and Mantha at the same age. Not sure he'll be a centre in the NHL. Already has NHL size/strength. Good speed but can always improve it. Can play the half wall on the PP or be the net front presence. Would be doing post game workouts when other players might be partying.
