I'll reserve judgement but none of the trailers are particularly good.

Well....this is a shame.
Seemed like they had a pretty simple formula for success. They had a great cast already in place and an awesome new villain to introduce.

OMG... could they reduce the Mystique/Raven screen time? It was fine in First Class and about triple what it should have been in the next one that was kinda crappy.

Yikes. Never in a review do you want to see "a deluge of arbitrary CGI that will remind you of the climax to Ang Lee's Hulk."

They would have to do the whole Phoenix saga, then Dark Phoenix and in order to do that they'd need at least one movie beforehand that really sets up Jean Grey (which might be this one but I doubt it as I suspect it won't give her and Cyclops much development time).
Basically, if they want to do that arc, it will take at least 3 movies and possibly four.

You mean that Phoenix shape in the water at the end of X2 wasn't a good enough set up?

For the record: Scott Mendelson has a giant hate on for everything super hero. He #### all over Deadpool and then wrote two or three follow up articles trying to down play its success and then trying to say that the movie's success was bad for everyone.
He was one of the biggest haters of BvS, which by all accounts was no where near as bad as he made it sound.
This guy hating the movie is something you should take with a bag of many grains of salt..
And despite the fact he talks as though he enjoyed DOFP, he hated that one too.

Yeah from reading a bunch of reviews it sounds like it is just too much mindless action with too little story. Too many characters (lol this has been a complaint about the comics for 40 years) and too little character development.
It also sounds like too much of the character conflict is a total retread, especially magneto and xavier.
I'm sure it'll turn out to be not bad, but not great. Can't be worse than BvS. Right?

Think the character issue was always going to be a problem with this one though, they were introducing 8 new characters into a universe that already probably had too many characters (and was in a somewhat confusing place due to time travel)
Jean Grey
Cyclops
Storm
Nightcrawler
Angel
Psylocke
Jubilee
Apocalypse
8 new characters into a universe that was already in a bit of Limbo after the time travel in the last movie & we really have yet to get a movie just resetting this universe after being introduced to the groups in First Class.
Plus they probably went the Apocalypse movie route too early. The new Universe could have used their own just X-Men vs Brotherhood of Mutants storyline just to set up the characters and teams a little more before going to Apocalypse. Really outside of the very end of First Class we didn't get to see a true X-Men vs Brotherhood storyline play out with this generation of characters.
I will still go because I think even though this may be a flop that there is still a lot of potential in this cast and this X-Men universe but sounds like it will be disappointing.

Half of those characters aren't being introduced. And Jubilee won't be in this movie any more than the first two, I bet.
Best summary I've seen of the movie so far:
"In general, it plays less like the conclusion of a trilogy than like the final stage of a very large and unwieldy truck navigating a very narrow hairpin turn in hopes of finding clear highways ahead: an impressive feat, but not particularly epic unless you’re the guy at the wheel... It’s essentially an uneven and poorly-paced mash-up of two movies: one, a decidedly lackluster story about Xavier and Magneto continuing to rehash the same feelings we’ve been watching them slog through for two preceding movies; and the other, a pretty solid coming-of-age flick about the next generation of X-kids."
I'm going to see it anyway. I liked the Xavier and Magneto dynamic from the last two movies. And I'm eager to see how this sets things up for the next movies after the baton pass.

Well they aren't new to X-Men movie universe as a whole but they are new to this X-Men timeline that started with First Class.
Different actors and character traits than those we saw in the original X-Men trilogy.
In the end they are still going to be characters that are for the most part going to need to be re-introduced in this movie.

I would say it's fair to call them new characters. It looks like characters like Nightcrawler, Angel, and Storm have absolutely nothing to do with their previous incarnations.

The post credits scene for X-Men Apocalypse has leaked, and can be seen/described online for those who seek it out. It's not going to mean much of anything to anyone who hasn't read the comics, and it's a fairly obscure reference for someone who has.

The whole movie is online. Quality is decent too. Havent decided if I'll watch it at the theatre or online.

Most reviews I've read place it somewhere between BvS and Civil War. It suffers from a lot of the same flaws as BvS, too many characters, weak story, lacking character development, but most reviews I've read say it clearly isn't the hilariously bad mess that BvS was. Perhaps misguided and overcrowded are better terms.
One thing I'm interested in is that several reviews have been critical of all of the comic book reader only references that Singer makes that were lost on most people. I'm curious to see if the movie is more enjoyable with knowledge of the source material. Or as usually happens, it ends up being even more offensive knowing that they messed it up.

Yeah I have tickets for Saturday night and I'm not going into it with high hopes...
Everything I've read about it has been pretty "meh" and comparing to BvS.
