Until a skill team beats a physical western conference style team in the finals, things will not change.

The only east teams that have won since 2005 are Carolina over a very lackluster Edmonton team and only just barely and that's largely due to Roloson getting hurt. The Penguins over a similarly skill oriented Detroit Red Wings, and the Boston Bruins over Vancouver in a matchup that was a West style team vs a skill team. Each of the other cups have been awarded to physically domineering teams.

Skill teams can make the Finals. Skill teams rarely win in the finals.

After the loss of the Caps who I predicted to win the cup, I am with Dallas tomorrow night for one more game. After that, it's San Jose.

Sharks and Kings are the evils. Remember that the Sharks broke Flames fans hearts in 1995.

I feel like a broken record at this point, but the Hawks are a skill team.

If the Sharks manage to knock off the Preds, it will only be skill teams remaining in the playoffs.

The Penguins should change coaches midseason more often. The last time they did it they won the cup and so far this playoffs they look like the team to beat. Strange that the newer additions like Kessel, Bonino, Hagelin, and Murray are carrying them. If Crosby and Malkin could get going they will be tough to beat.

All the teams that made the playoffs are skilled it's simply different makeup of skilled teams. The Penguins made moves that improved their team speed and my personal belief is that team speed is more important than size. I hope Treliving and Burke aren't going to try and build a bigger team at the expense of speed as the Kings won two cups but haven't been able to consistently have solid regular seasons or playoffs because they are kind of a plodding team that has to grind out wins. Pretty well all the teams remaining in the playoffs have good team speed.

Dallas would also need to beat St. Louis.

Ugg, I had the Caps to win it all in the office bracket.

God I hate the Penguins, they just have a knack for destroying my bracket going back to the 90/91-91/92 back-to-back cups when we had a "pick the winners" playoff thing in grade school.

Even the years I think "hey, the Penguins are looking pretty good this year" they manage to get eliminated instead.

You're right. I didn't want to jinx our first round pick from the Stars.

Yes, the Pens have really upgraded their speed this season.

You just get a sense that you don't win big games with Ovi as your centerpiece.

While he had a couple of nice moments last night, he had lots of bobbles and looked like he was holding his stick tight enough to be a one man toothpick factory.

Why? The Caps are not exactly known for meeting expectations. In fairness to you Las Vegas odds makers had the Caps winning it all.

The Blues are plenty skilled. Tarasenko, Schwartz, Fabbri, Lehtera, Stastny, Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo. And their third line of Berglund-Backes-Steen is as skilled as any third line in the league.

Ovi was their best player.

If anyone else on that team showed up to play in the second round the result could be different. Its on everyone except maybe Ovi and Oshie. Everyone else was pretty awful.

Seemed like Ovechkin was having a good year, and dammit, I just want a feel good story.

That's a little unfair though given how he was better than both Malkin and Crosby head to head in this series. It really does come down to who has the best team in the playoffs and the Penguins depth players outplayed the Capitals depth players. Kuznetsov being a playoff no-show really hurt the Caps while Kessel surprisingly was pretty clutch for the Penguins.
