Clearly the Flames list in 4 to 6 is probably Tkachuk, Dubois and Nylander. A defenseman in there would surprise me, after a ledge like the top 3, BPA is something they love to say but positional need plays a major factor.

We definitely get a good player at 6, hopefully Vancouver takes a dman and we get to choose between Nylander and Tkachuk.

Man. I feel guilty now cheering for the Jets to come back and beat the Kings on the final night of the season. If Kings held on, we would have Laine. He is ripping it up at the WHC

Would look so good wearing the flaming C

That's not how it works. The outcome of a hypothetical lottery in an alternate timeline where that game turned out differently is independent of the lottery in this timeline. The Flames chances in that lottery would simply have been worse due to our position further up in the standings.

Wow... I hadn't paid any attention to Keller, but after seeing that highlight video, I would love to take him @ 6 if Tkachuk and Dubois are gone. This Youtube Scout would be happy with that pick.

I would be shocked if we drafted Nylander.

"Once you get to four, things could fall different ways as different teams have different guys at No. 4," said Treliving.

While Jakob Chychrun (Sarnia, OHL) was the top ranked blueliner for much of the year, there seems to be some volatility with this player. Seems some teams don't regard him nearly as high as others like Olli Juolevi (London, OHL) and Mikhail Sergachev (Windsor, OHL) . Treliving said once you get into the defencemen, preferences seem to be all over the map.

"It's unique that if you talk to 10 people, you might get 10 different names in terms of a consensus top defenceman. They have different attributes, different traits. Once you get into that 6, 7, 8 range, there's going to be lots and lots of debate."
This might suggest that the Flames do have a defenceman in their 4-6 ledge.

I think he's a one-and-done guy. He's already styled all over Div 1 NCAA competition which suggest he's going to have a Jack Eichel / Kyle Connor type Hobey Baker Finalist freshman season.

After that however I think he might spend a few months in Stockton the way we're not sure if Jankowski will be will be in the NHL next season, but probably should be. That's the good thing about drafting a guy who's not playing in the CHL. CHL guys, depending on birth date, can end up stuck in the NHL too early or CHL too late, nothing in between which ends up with inconsistency like Sam Bennett's rookie season.

That's how I want to see the team built up front.
Visualize:

Gaudreau-Monahan(212)-Pribyl(220)
Ferland-Bennett (205)-Keller (189)
Colborne-Jankowski(218)-Backlund
Poirier (208)-Grant(210)-Hathaway

You've got your beef and you've got high-end playmaking. Can cycle, can beat you off the rush, can beat you off the PP, can beat you on the PK. Will pin you in and sufficate you, but has no difficulty avoiding getting pinned in themself.

I know that there are some folks that aren't fans of meta rankings, however, Keller at 6 isn't a huge reach, if the team really likes him... reminds me a little be of Bo Horvat's draft, where i think he was projected in around the 18-21 range and Van picked him at 8 or 9? so a bit of a jump, but not like someone totally off the board.

trading down is a bit of risk that might not be worth it because you are not going way off the meta board. So dropping down 4 spots for a 3rd round pick might not be worth it as someone could easily jump you for Keller...

I would trade the farm for Laine, without a doubt. This guy is generational talent for a RW.

6th pick, Dallas pick, next years first, whatever other picks they want this year or next + any prospect they'd like and young player not sam,tj,sean or johnny.

Why even say something like this if you're going to end it off by adding all the players they definitely *would* want in a gross overpayment for that pick?

Any hypothetical scenario where Winnipeg gives up that pic would be for a gross overpayment that most definitely would include those guys you don't want to give up in some capacity.

I think Nylander would be a pretty shocking pick at #6. I'm not gonna rule it out completely but I would be really, really surprised.

-plays the least important position in hockey
-doesn't have ideal/size strength
-perhaps some questions on his compete/consistency/physical play

I would be pencilling him in during the Feaster era where we had a bigger emphasis on adding pure skill. But I don't think adding pure skill is the direction management would steer such a high pick.

What have we heard philosophically from Flames management lately? Needing to play a heavier game. Nylander and Keller are like the opposite direction of that stated goal. If we were picking way lower and they "fell" to us then yeah, snap up that pure skill. But at #6 in a draft with a strong top end? That's where you can get a player that has everything you're looking for. That is where you should be able to grab a complete package type player. Someone who projects to have skill, skating, size, and strength. Vancouver has talked about there being foundational players in that range.

Every time I sit down and really think about it I just can't imagine us taking Nylander at #6. I can imagine him being top 6 on some teams lists but I can't imagine the Flames being one of those teams.

I still believe, as I posted 3 weeks ago, that Keller will go 4-7.

Prepare to be surprised I would happily bet money that he does not go in that range.
