Man, I know what you mean. I was just thinking to myself that I need to calm myself down. And I'm not even involved with the catastrophe. I can't imagine what those folks are going through.

I want to literally go there and help if I could.

Same here. I feel such a strong connection to this. I wish I could do something.

We should all donate.

Ya I didn't notice this on the front cam but on the rear dash you get a good view of it towards the end.

I am stressed out just watching these videos. That biker must have been feeling the heat.

Everyone involved should be proud. First responders for braving true H**l on Earth conditions. Also the people of Fort Mac. I'll admit I chuckle at the d bag jokes in the past about that town, I mean that with a bit of brotherly Alberta love.

Just seeing how in reality an entire city was calm and collected. Wow, amazing work. I admired the work ethic before, but man you can tell those people have the stuff together. Calm and collected. Way to go.

Does anyone know where I could donate myself, physically, to help in any way?
Loading supplies or anywhere that needs bodies?
Locally you can call the Red Cross and food banks and volunteer...also the government is not taking any volunteers at this time, this from their website

Volunteers

No volunteers are required at this time.
As for those that want to go to the area to help....dont. At least not for a while.

The word is that residents wont be allowed back for at least 72 hours AFTER the fire is contained...which it is far from being at this point.

Truth is, until all assessments of damage are made, and the ability to make sure those returning have somewhere to eat/get supplies/etc, you will just be in the way and probably unable to actually do anything.

The best bet to help is maybe start taking up a collection from friends/neighbors type of thing and give that to the RC...who are really good at getting that into the right hands.

At 1:34 you can see a couple animals (deer perhaps or a couple dogs maybe, I'm not sure) dashing up the left side of the video then bolt across the street.

Here in China it would be a complete ####show. People driving on the sidewalk, smashing into other cars. That is amazing to see how calm everyone was in that situation.

Don't know the lady who posted that, but I know (based on some twitter conversations that shows up in my feed) that she was involved with helping the Syrian refugees in Calgary, so this might very well be true.

And yes, that is amazing.

I donated $1,000 to the red cross today through my work.

I'll challenge each CP member to donate, period.

Post in the thread if you do donate and encourage other people to do so. Really though, it doesn't matter the amount, just donate something if you can.

Also, it's not just money to get the people safe. Now that they are here in Edmonton, there is going to be a lot of downtime with their kids. I wish we could donate things like Scene points for Cineplex Odeon or stuff like that so the victims can go and escape for a few hours.

Thought I could provide some image updates from satellite fire detection systems. Red dots are new within 6 hours.
Fort Mac:
Spoiler!

High Level
Spoiler!

Fort Mac has a lot of new action to the SE. High Level looks to have gotten worse, spreading west. The other fire mentioned further south doesn't show up much so it must be fairly contained.

I posted how to access this yesterday, if you want to look for yourself here:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...&postcount=552
I can post updates if there is any interest. Doesn't take long to generate the images.

I sure hope that people who use the backcountry are being extra careful and not casually discarding cigarette butts or starting camp fires as I would think that another one or two large scale fires would really stretch the resources to battle them.

I read that they figure this fort mac fire was likely started by man due tot eh lack of lightning activity in the area, has anyone else heard anything more on that?

The web cam from the Fort Mac airport this morning showed no smoke at all!!!

Or, am I doing something wrong and looking at the wrong cam?

Our Hangingstone facility opened up 300 beds and is now full. It is also the command post and helicopter staging area for Alberta Forestry.

Also, additional FD crews are starting to arrive this morning. (Calgary for one)
