Not sure what neighbourhood this is, but it's been completely destroyed by the fire.
How much ground has this blaze covered now?

see now you are making stuff up.
you can have all the personnel but if they are in the wrong place they are not helpful
This fire has been changing hourly.
We are barely 7th tier, sunday-morning quarterbacks when it comes to making these kinds of decisions in response to a forest fire threatening a town.
Local commanders made the call. Prime Minister said forces are available and Canadian Forces folks have been preparing/ mobilizing since last night.
Very little could have moved faster.
(did you have to evacuate from the 2013 flood?)

Might have already been posted, but if it was, I missed it. The St. Louis Blues are donating the proceeds from Game 4's 50/50 to the Ft. McMurray fire. Classy move from the organization. Scottie Upshall is a Ft. McMurray native.

There have been reports the airport is on fire. It isn't at this time.

Thank god.
I hope this is over soon and people can get back in to try and salvage their lives and get back to work.
If anyone knows if they have started coordinating volunteers for when the time comes, can you PM me? I work a 9/5 north of town and would want to spend my 5 days off helping. Ft Mac has given me a lot, I need to give something back.

Not necessarily, having more people in the area can also lead to more congestion and a decreased ability to properly evacuate the area. In this instance having more people wouldn't do anything and this should be seen as a massive success considering that there were no human lives lost. The only thing that could be done differently would be the creation of massive firebreaks previously but even then I don't know how much good that would do considering the windspeed. The greatest blessing at this time is the fact that highway 63 was recently twinned allowing for twice the vehicle traffic to leave the area. If not for this the disaster could have been even worse with a significant loss of lives.

Tomorrow marks my 1 year anniversary of being laid off from a job just south of Ft Mac.
I'm almost food bank poor, so a cash donation is not an option. But my wife is off for the next week which means I don't have to worry about the kids and could be put to use.
Does anyone know where I could donate myself, physically, to help in any way?
Loading supplies or anywhere that needs bodies?

People. Other cars. Something preventing him from leaving due to the car not being driveable.
