If people want to discuss stupid stuff that idiots are saying on social media please start a dedicated thread. We don't need that in this thread or the discussion that follows from it.
So confine it some place else or stop posting it altogether.

So some dumb dumbs in this thread keep posting nasty tweets and referring to CBC comments, etc. I decided to fire up the ole twitter machine because I felt like foaming at the mouth at the disgustingness of this province, country, terrible godforsaken idon'twanttoliveonthisplanetanymore world. Here are some random, non-cherry picked, somewhat chronological (I don't understand twitter) tweets I found after searching #fortmacwildfire. Put on your outrage hats, because boy, these are bad:

Spoiler!

etc etc etc

For every solitary prick that you give your undue attention there are literally THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of sympathetic onlookers, helping in any way that they can, sick to the stomach at the apocalyptic images that we're seeing on the news.

Seriously, who the hell cares if some random nobody from nowhere thinks this is karma? He is such a small % of the population, he might as well not exist.

If you choose to see some attention seeking morons on Facebook as an indictment of society as a whole, then that's a sad way to view the world, but it's up to you. But don't bring it into this thread for all of us to rubberneck at while we follow the news and otherwise worthwhile discussion. Thanks in advance.

Shaw has donated $100,000 to the Red Cross and they are matching employee contributions for another $100,000.

For anyone interested, you can go here:
http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/goog...&extent=canada
and download:
AFM KML Bundle

to load into Google Earth. There are a whole bunch of layers, but to start with you can turn everything off and select
VIIRS I Band Fire Detections

then just turn on the most recent. It auto refreshes when there is new data(hourly, I think). I'd be interested to ground truth some of this to see how accurate it is. Anyway, it's an interesting way to visualize where the active fires are, and you can play around with the other layers.

Incredible amount of ads on Kijiji with people offering places to stay for people and pets. Very cool to see. A bit of a helpless feeling being down here in the south, donated some money but hell, I wish we could drive up there and help.

it makes me so proud to see people come together at times like these. All day on CBC radio there were stories about people helping each other out. It's hard some times when people say such heartless things, but they're few and far between. They're either misinformed or hypocrites... or both.

Very well said, I agree with you. We should all - including yours truly - not post any more silly, inconsiderate tweets.

I'll donate to Fort Mac. We all should too.

While this fire rages on, another rages nearby in High Level:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/...567321?cmp=rss

Quote:
An area south of High Level, Alta., is under an evacuation order as a fire at a forest product mill rages out of control.

Rural residents in an area five kilometres south of High Level between the Bushe Reserve and Highway 35 are being asked to evacuate immediately and go to the reception centre located at the Town of High Level office to register and receive further instruction.
