You might be saying that about the leafs, yet they still manage to unload their players every season... So no this is just a silly speculation

omg was just gonna post that...he also won a gold medal and was included in the best defensive core ever assembled since that trade.
Guy doesn't run players through the boards but ANY team would love to have him

What you are talking about is Fan reaction on a message board, which means nothing. The fact that a bunch of people in here run around talking about how we don't want any more Leafs or that the Oilers are overvaluing players has 0 impact on whether or not Flames management might entertain a Leafs trade again or what other GMs think about the Oilers players.
Blows my mind sometimes how people actually think fan gossip and opinion is universally the same as what GMs think or even a step further that it strongly influences GM think.

2018 Trade Deadline, Tampa Bay Lightning looking to shore up their center depth, calling Calgary. "Well Brad, we'd love to add Mikael Backlund, he would add a lot to this team but Curtis Glencross didn't work out three years ago in Washington so you can eff right off".

I hope in 2018 we're adding for a playoff run not trading players away

They guy has opinions far from the norm, which alone doesn't warrant the abuse he takes, but when you consider that he has outlandish opinions AND thinks everyone who disagrees is stupid and isn't afraid to dish it out, you can't feel sorry for the guy.

So, what does Ricardo think of the production of Barkov, Huberdeau and Jagr in the playoffs? Should the Panthers get rid of them all because of their underwhelming performance?
Stats without context are useless, yes Hudler only got 1 point (1 less than Jagr in 10 less minutes per game) and Purcell only got 2 points (1 less than Barkov and 1 less than Huberbeau), so what is the excuse for these top line players.

He doesn't tend to look at big picture stats like that. He's a narrative guy who picks out stats that continue the narrative. If there was an angle he was going for that those other players lack of production supported than he'd let us know for sure.

find the number of times I have pushed back personally and compare that to the number of times I have been attacked personally.
My opinions are not that far from the norm.
discounting the responses that simply personal attacks..... there are more people agreeing with my opinion that Florida would be disappointed in the Hudler trade, that they won't be much interested in re-signing him and that he likely will not be getting 4M in his next contract.
If someone wants to put up a poll... with 20/20 hindsight did the flames win the Hudler trade?
Even on this thread's poll only 12 people (AcGold, Bootsy, Diemenz, Dirty Mr. Clean, djmichaelk, EVERLAST, Flamboyant 14, GreenLantern2814, icarus, ignite09, mikeecho, Poison) thought correctly the Flames got more than expected from the trade. I (along with you) was with the "Normal" but dead wrong people that expected more.
I am outside of the "norm" in suggesting that the Flames have been winning these rental trades by such a large margin that they will be harder to keep making and winning....

I think the issue is that 90% of the time rentals don't really pay off, and that isn't new just this season either.
I can't really recall a rental that truly pays dividends for a team and often it is better for the team selling (Forsberg for Erat anyone? http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/t...aborik-bishop/)
Stall has been poor, Ladd has been average, Stempniak didn't work out for the Bruins, Boedker was no good for the Avs, Versteeg and the Kings are out, and the list goes on.
Really the best two moves have likely been McGinn & Russell. May throw Polak and Weise in there too.
It's less of a Calgary Flames problem, and more of a maybe we should get a rental at all problem.

I don't care that much about ricardodw one way or the other, which is why I don't mind having him around. I don't even have him on ignore, like I have some other regulars. I'm perfectly capable of ignoring him when I feel like it and responding when I feel like responding.
But when people keep turning threads into ricardodw threads, that's really annoying. And that's not on ricardodw. That's on other people being unable to act like adults around people who they don't like or agree with.
Just generally, don't talk crap about other posters. It's just distracting and serves no real purpose. I don't come to this board to talk about ricardodw.
Let me say that again
ricardodw
bugs me much less than
People who want to talk with ricardodw even when they think he's being an idiot
bug me much less than
people who constantly want to talk ABOUT ricardodw.

To one of the core questions - I wouldn't be surprised if Hudler has a tough time finding work this off-season. Smaller, slow and probably on the downside of his career.
We all thought Glencross would cash in and ended up taking tryouts before retiring.
I see Hudler being dissapointed with offers and ending up in the KHL.

"Hey Brad. I would love Backlund but you guys play a more wide open game where defenseman are allowed to join the rush at their leisure, which results in offensive numbers that may not be replicated on my defensive team."
"Instead of a 1st round draft pick, I will offer you a 2nd round pick instead. The trades of Glencross and Hudler both indicate that your players' offensive numbers may be inflated in a more open style"

If Huds can't get an NHL job it will quite the fast fall.
76 points last season, and 31 goals
Still put up 46 points combined this season too.

I know these are proud, competitive guys, but I do gotta wonder when players on the wrong side of 30 are going to start realizing their market value is declining rapidly. The NHL today is a fast, young man's game. You lose a step and stop producing, and you're done. Teams are all up against their payroll/cap, and they'll bring in a young guy on an entry-level contract before they'll give significant cap space to declining players who can't stick in the top six. Maybe these guys have to swallow their pride and take what they can get just to stay in the league.

Both Glencross and Hudler had poor offensive numbers at the times of each respective trade. Glencross had 9 goals in 59 games before being traded and Hudler had 10 goals and 35 points in 53 games. Both were big dips from previous years.
Those guys were declining already in the Flames system.

I never once mentioned stats to back up my claim that Hudler had disappointing run in the playoffs.
If you want a stat: 5 SOG in 6 games. That in 15 minutes of ice time gets you press box time.
Are you somehow saying that Hudler had a great or even good series?

Hudler traded to Florida for 2016 2nd + 2018 4th round picks

"Well looks like Backlund provides us or a different team more value than he does for you! Especially with your obscure evaluation of only focusing on what past Flames players have done. Thanks for the interest, but we will look elsewhere"

Agreed with most of that, Itse, but people aren't turning threads into ricardodw threads, ricardodw is turning these threads into ricardodw threads.
