If you want to take a different cab at the airport, just go upstairs and take a taxi that's dropping off a customer.

well "all the information" a taxi driver would receive is your name and address, i'm sure I could grab a bag of your garbage and find your name on an envelope. No need for me to go to the much greater trouble of becoming a driver and spending hours driving people around to find out their names.

Did you even bother to do any research before spouting off as you accused Nenshi of doing?
Lyft does do criminal checks and their drivers do have insurance. Some people just look for anything to bash Nenshi with.

His apology makes him look like nearly as much of a jackass as the 27 minute video.
He needs some help in the communications department methinks.
This: Who knew I’d have my very own episode of Taxicab Confessions? I should have stuck with Carpool Karaoke.
Nenshi, its not funny. Neither was joking about using sex offenders to infiltrate uber, anywhere but even less so, in the City where you purport to care of the welfare of everyone including those who use transportation services, and so on.

Oh and if Nenshi really wanted to he could have that driver fired. I was bored so I decided I would try and be a Lyft driver just to see what they ask you and everything and privacy of your customers is something Lyft protects. Nenshi didn't even know he was being recorded until the end. That's an invasion of privacy.

Good advice, and advice I usually give.
In addition, make sure that if you are using a phone without a SIM to call 911, that you know your address/where you are, since the phone can't tell anyone. Also, make sure that you don't hang up, since it can't be called back, either.

For the people calling him hypocritical
https://www.lyft.com/safety
"The criminal background check includes national and county-level databases and records stretching back a minimum of 7 years for review of convictions in California, and longer in some other jurisdictions. Among other things, Lyft disqualifies driver applicants for violent crime, felony, sexual offense, or drug-related convictions that appear on a background check. Learn more."

Yeah well that's good and all, but Uber claims to do background checks as well. Apparently the city tested those and they failed, so who knows how stringent the Lyft checks are?
I think the hypocrisy angle is minimal though. Really the whole thing is minor IMO. It was a private conversation, and really who would be comfortable to find out their conversation was recorded after the fact in most situations? I know I wouldn't. It's basically an ambush. He chose his words poorly, but so what? Lots of people do in lots of situations.

I don't think it is a huge deal, but as Mayor he should be held to a higher standard. Spouting off to a driver isn't smart.

So the mayor of Calgary tells his true thoughts in a private conversation and he should get a free pass because he was broadcast illegally? Really?
The truth matters, moreso than politicians.

He should get a free pass because nothing he said was wrong or broke any laws. Did I watch the same video as some people? Sheesh.

Fair enough, but I was replying to the guy who said Lyft doesn't follow what Nenshi was advocating for in Calgary. It's obvious they do, how good, I have no idea.

So if he just thinks the CEO of Uber is a dick, that's his prerogative. If he tells someone that in a private conversation, that's no big deal and no problem. The issue here is that he was unknowingly recorded. So how can you hold that against him?

You are being intentionally obtuse with this response, picking up one part only. Read above, or any news article from the Canadian press (literally, Canadian Press, also see Postmedia, and independent reports from for example the Winnipeg Free Press or the Toronto Star).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dakxwoVV7yM
FURTHER EDIT: Slava, your response suggests you didn't even read Nenshi's own published, written, apology.

I assume you are referring to the city hiring sex offenders to test the Uber systems? I have concerns about that, obviously, but this wasn't Nenshi on his own then; surely others knew of that and are involved?

Well post what he did wrong. Calling someone a dick is the most he's guilty for.
Reading the Canadian press is not the best idea as they're only looking for click bait.
Watch the entire video instead of reading the press. Because he did nothing wrong except have a private conversation with someone and the worst he did was call someone a dick?

If sex offenders are being given jobs, I'd much rather they work for the city testing the system, than for Uber driving unsuspecting passengers around.

So he can intentionally not find out the details as Mayor so as to excuse himself? You are still missing more but I'll leave that up to you, I'm not here to restore sight to those who can't see.

A decent job for a criminal rejoining society is to be alone in a vehicle with a person who has no idea about the criminal's past? Never mind the sex offenders part, what about robbing a passenger, pulling a weapon on them and making them withdraw funds from an ATM?
There may be some people who are fine with criminals driving them around, but I would bet that the vast majority of people are not.
