That's why good design matters - not every arena/stadium is done with the best design, nor is every design approached with the same requirements.

Well, that explains it. There's never been a Cup Final game played at the Consol Energy Center, so that's why it's so empty.

The old concourse thing doesn't strike me as important. How much time do you spend in the concourse? Its a hallway to get to and from your seats. The owners want them bigger and wider so you'll spend more time out there and spend more money (and so they can fit in more advertising).
Washrooms sure I can get sure.
But you're basically guaranteeing yourself a 20% higher ticket price when this new arena opens and all the fans are going to get out of it are wider concourses and a few more washrooms.

They are all going to be busy during the intermissions/post game no matter how new or big they are. You aren't just going to design the place to have 10-15k people in the concourses for the 60 minutes per week that they are used.

The Prudential Center is a great place. I was there for the draft and a bunch of people were milling around due to all the things on the concourse and it was still easy to move around. Even in the picture you have there is a ton of space to the left of the lineup (which none are moving so I wonder if its for autographs or something).

Maybe for you. I usually meet up with friends during intermissions who are sitting in different seats. It'd be nice if this wasn't such an ordeal cause currently you spend more of the intermission trying to weave through the crowd and find people and wait in line for a beer then you get to actually chat with anyone.
I get that it seems unnecessary for people who go to games with their kids and just want to get to their seats, watch the game and leave but you're not really the target of the Flames investment into their arena.

So if the Flames opened up secret hallway for you and your friends to do this, you'd be willing to pay 20% (that is likely low considering Edmonton is closer to 30%) more for your tickets?

Both of those arenas are less than 10 years old.
The Saddledome is crowded, yes. That's a drawback.
But these other arenas are too!
You're only really getting crowded when everyone's leaving after the game, and that's easily avoidable: wait five minutes!
|
Those look like two shots of people standing in lines. Look to the left of the large group in New Jersey, there's plenty of room for people to walk by.
There is also a lot of visible floor space in the Minnesota photo.
It would be easy to walk through the concourse in both of those photos. The same cannot be said for just walking to and from the washroom at the Saddledome during intermissions.

If I could comfortably go to the washroom, grab a beer and some food and chat with friends during an intermission then yes. Gladly. It's so annoying having to try and leave early to beat lines for everything.
More importantly than that would be to have entertainment and transit options attached to the building itself and a parking lot that doesn't take a full hour to get out of after the game.

You're still going to be waiting in long lines for concessions. Perhaps shorter than now, but I'd count on 5-10 minutes to grab a beer/food during an intermission.

Going to a game should be an enjoyable experience all round. It shouldn't matter whether you're going with your kids and stay in your seats the whole game or drinking with friends on the concourse, everyone should have a good experience.

Anyone attending a Flames game with small kids would know that it's brutal as you have to pretty well hold them by the collars or they get swallowed up in the traffic of people pushing through the concourse.

Sorry if it has been mentioned earlier, but when is the report on the environmental remediation expected? April?

Today. It got lost after TheScorpian went on about how the Saddledome is world class and doesn't need to be replaced and then started posting heavily biased photos of some moderately newish arenas that prove that everything that's wrong with the Saddledome is okay, or something.
I could do the same thing he did
Excel Energy Center
Prudential Center

^^Thanks. That is big news. Will actually move this thing along or kill it (either way is better than where we are now).

Honestly, I originally wanted it to get approved but now I'd rather just skip right ahead to plan B and get shovels in the ground on a location that doesn't have an extra three years added to the build time for site clean up.
