There is a Plan B. I spoke to Councilor Joe Magliocca last week as he came to do a presentation. I spoke with him afterwards about CalgaryNext and voiced my displeasure about the current vision. After talking for a while, he said Ken King does have a Plan B but is holding on tight to it. It is only a matter of time before it is revealed as I believe CalgaryNext as it stands is dead in the water. As it should be.

I am still at a total loss as to how the Saddledome isn't a world-class facility.
However, that being said, I'd like a new arena, as long as the 'Dome is kept for the Hitmen and the Roughnecks.
Have you looked at or been to some world class facilities?
So the Flames build up an arena but leave two of their franchises in the old building? You know the point of building a new arena for the Flames is to generate more money? They won't do that by leaving 2 of their tenants out of it. Makes zero sense. Silly post.

Yes. While the Flames' arena could use better concourses, what else is there? Luxury boxes? I hardly ever sit in them, and I couldn't care less about them.
Also, to answer the second part of your response, look at Toronto. They have the Leafs in the relatively-recent ACC, but the Marlies - owned by the Leafs - are in the Ricoh.

Doesn't the ACC also have the raptors? Can't fit the Marlies schedule into the ACC alongside the Leafs and Raptors.

So, you have NHL and NBA in ACC. Each start and end their seasons within a couple of weeks from each other. You can fit in 9 NLL home games somewhere in there. Try to add another hockey team who starts a week after NBA and plays about 38 home games. That is downright difficult.
In the Dome you have NHL and WHL, which is a somewhat similar situation to the ACC and you can still fit in the NLL but it would be tough to include another regular tenant.

Do you know what an arena should look like on the inside?
O2 in London:
Spoiler!
Xcel Energy Center:
Consol Energy Center:
Notice how they're not crammed into the concourse like sardines.
There's a plethora of other issues with the Dome too.
- Camera's that obstruct views
- Railings that obstruct views (why these aren't glass, I have no idea)
- Lack of concession
- Only one level of concourse
- Lack of washrooms
- Lack of ATMs
- Elevators and Escalators
- Poorly organized parking
- Lack of Pre/Post event amenities
- Overall 80's appearance
- Public transit tunnel being outdoors
It's just an old arena and needs to be replaced. That's all there is to it.

The Saddledome is crowded, yes. That's a drawback.
But these other arenas are too!
You're only really getting crowded when everyone's leaving after the game, and that's easily avoidable: wait five minutes!

Have you ever left your seats during intermission?

It isn't as bad, especially if you don't turn the corners.
It's crowded, though, yes - but I'd wager that's the case in those two above arenas, as well.
I've been to the 20-year-old Verizon Center in Washington before, and that place gets crowded at intermission. It's super nice, but it's still very crowded.
