I don't remember where but I read the Flames were one the finalists for Panarin. Too bad.

This was from Friedman's 30 Thoughts: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/3...aft-selection/

Calgary, Montreal, Pittsburgh and Toronto all made strong pitches. Sounds like the Flames — who heavily pursued him — were closest, but with so many small, talented forwards already in position (Sam Bennett, Johnny Gaudreau, Markus Granlund, Jiri Hudler), Panarin thought that might be too many.

Friedman tweets he believes Chicago has an edge on Canadian teams like the Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, each have expressed interest in the forward. The Pittsburgh Penguins also have reported interest.

Yes they do, and they are quite strict. They've done a pretty good job of handling the potential problem IMO. Most players seem to know what not to use.

I remember when Alex Aleardi was banned for it. Now he weighs 167 pounds.

Glad he can only sign a 2 year. Like other posters have already mentioned, I also think that Cervenka could have benefited from an additional year and would have solidified himself as an NHL'er. Gives Pribyl 2 years to adjust to North America, learn the systems and hopefully get some chemistry going with some players on the team.

Also, I would bet that he ends up on the top line at some point. Not that I think he will be a very good scorer or not, but simply because the Flames have rotated Jones, Hudler, Ferland, Colborne, Shinkaruk, Bollig and I am sure I am forgetting a few others on the line. Nobody (outside of Hudler, who is no longer here) have really fit in very well on that line, so I expect Pribyl to get a look at least.

He really fills a few needs on the team, so really hoping it works out.

Lots of Habs fans trumpeting this guy as a lost cause with terrible skating.

Hopefully it's a combination of sour grapes and out dated information.

I hope he's at development camp if we sign him. Should be a good way to get a read on him.

its a shame: if Friedman's info is true, 2 of the 4 "smallish" forwards that gave Paranin pause are no longer with the organization...

oh well... hard to say he made the wrong choice all things considered.

He is a finesse player. Says he likes to model his game after Hemsky and Lemieux. Also said if he could choose he would prefer to be drafted by Edmonton or Pittsburgh (likely because of his role models) in his draft year.

Here's the info on his skating from earlier in this thread

Daniel Pribyl reminds of Tomas Hertl per Francis

http://www.calgarysun.com/2016/04/17...-daniel-pribyl

Quote:
While teams had been sniffing around him since 2013, he chose to stay in Czech Republic to continue developing. He certainly blossomed this year and feels ready to make the jump overseas after tying for second in Czech Extraliga scoring with 16 goals and 45 points in 45 outings.

He reminds some Flames front-office types of San Jose’s Czech forward Tomas Hertl, who has similar size and scored 21 times this year for the Sharks.

He won’t run over players but he’s good at using his size to protect the puck and has great hands.

If Pribyl is anywhere near as successful as Hertl, the Flames will have pulled off a bit of a coup signing him.

I'll have to take your word for it, since I have zero intention of reading it.

I heard this a good handful of times throughout this past season:

"Panarin's #1 choice was Chicago, and he didn't really seriously consider any other offers from other teams, even though he may have listened to them."

I heard this from Chicago announcers, but also announcers on other teams as well while talking about Panarin. Regardless of how many small players this team had or not, Panarin would have signed in Chicago.

Essentially, they promised him time with either Toews or Kane, and were a championship caliber squad. Wasn't a hard decision for him after that - he gets to play with high-end talent that could help him increase his numbers to get a better contract when he becomes RFA, and he also gets a very legitimate chance to win now. They were saying he was 95% sure he was going to sign with Chicago from the get-go.

His CBA age this year is 24, so he'll be signing a one-year ELC, I believe. (He's 24 in December.)

It's the player's age on September 15 of the year he signs, regardless of his age on the day he signs.

Quote:
9.2 Age of Players. As used in this Article, "age," including "First SPC Signing Age," means a Player's age on September 15 of the calendar year in which he signs an SPC, regardless of his actual age on the date he signs such SPC.
