Roughly the same? I dunno.

Finishing 6th we'd have a 58.9% chance of drafting outside the top 6.
Finishing 5th we'd have a 29.2% chance of drafting outside the top 6.
Finishing 4th we'd have a 7.4% chance of drafting outside the top 6.

Saying we're less likely to move down is kind of sugar coating it because sure we're less likely to move down, but our expected draft position is still much worse overall.

Anyways it is what it is, big blow to the draft odds. Let's not try and exaggerate and pretend it didn't change the odds at all or that it's somehow better, because that is misleading.
5.5% is roughly the same. In each case 7 to 7.5/10 times the team won't get picked. Would I have preferred being in 3rd or 4th, sure. That didn't happen. I would much rather have thumped the Canucks with a 7 goal performance than winning 2-1 though. What I was saying by there isn't as much of a chance to fall back is that it is more unlikely that a 7-14 place team wins a spot than either 5 or 6. So if we're sixth, we're less likely to slide than if we were in either 4th or 5th (even though we'd be in 5th and 6th respectively in those cases)

We'll be fine either way. Either we get a really good defenseman, a high scoring winger or a quality center. I would be happy if we got any of the second group, and thankfully there are more names on that list than there are spots to fall down. My second group of three is Dubois/Chychrun/Sergachev and we're very likely going to get one of them regardless. Can't complain too much. At least it's not 2014 where there are four good guys, then a gap and then a bunch of questionables. All the top 9 are good.

Knew we couldn't possibly lose. The Canucks make us look like the Kings/Hawks.

I believe we'll get lucky with one of the top 3 even with being unable to out-suck our rivals.

Was at the game with my boy tonight. Really fun game to be at and the fans were great. Seems like one of those years where people were quite proud of this team and realize that goaltending was the real issue. A couple of conversations I had felt that the team had wasted good seasons from Bennett, J. Hockey, Monahan, Colborne, Backlund etc...

Anyway, on to next year and shout out to Envitro who I saw at the game.

Bittersweet victory. Backlund is finally a 20 goal scorer and Stajan is finally not useless.

But damn this team needed a Fin

In the end I guess justice is served as the Flames are not worse than the Leafs, Oilers, or Canucks. Would've liked to have finished below them for the odds but lets face it, we aren't worse than those teams.

I can't think of a team in recent memory that was as bad and hopeless as the Canucks. How that team swept California is beyond me. They are horrible.

Sometimes you need to feel the lows to want the highs. Let's learn and move forward. Hopefully our GM helps out with personnel. But next year....playoffs

This team is too good to be wallowing in the muck with the likes of the Oilers and Canucks. Especially now that Ortio has found a bit of a groove.

Speaking of which, Orts is 7-3-3 in his last 13 starts with a 0.910 save percentage.

He's also dropped his goals against from 3.34 to 2.76 in that 13 game sample size.

I understand why fans do it, but I would still find it embarrassing as a fanbase to hear the crowd cheering for the other team like what happened in Buffalo. Really happy to have the fans excited and cheering the Flames on all the way through the end.

For their efforts down the stretch the Flames and Jets deserve the top two picks.

Well hopefully Winnipeg wins and Buffalo wins their two games. If that happens and the Flames lose their last game, they can finish 4th last
