No kidding eh? If the team had a goalie that would have given them confidence all year, we would probably be gearing up for another run! Hopefully next year ... I am gonna dream!

The Vancouver Canucks: tanking, not giving a ####, or just plain terrible?
Edmonton may have some competition next year in the no good sweepstakes.
Congrats to Backlund on the hat-trick. He struggled with injuries early in his career, but he's quietly turned into a hell of a player.

Deryk Engelland is on a 2-game scoring streak. Pick him up in your pools.

No kidding. He end this game with "Well it was a disappointing season for the Calgary Flames"
I guess he can't end every Canucks game like that.

Perfectly fine with finishing with the 6th worst record if it means slapping the Canucks around.
The odds of getting one of the top 3 picks is roughly the same if they finish 4th 5th or 6th (each is bloody unlikely)
At least if the Flames finish sixth, we're unlikely to slide back, where it would be a greater concern if we finished fourth or fifth.
Matthews - Laine - Puljujarvi should be gone and two of Dubois, Chychrun, Tkachuk, Nylander, Sergachev, and Juolevi. We will be fine adding any of the other remaining guys if we don't win one of the top 3 picks.

I've said it before, but I see nothing wrong with wanting to see the Flames pound every team they face into submission, and then beat the odds and win the draft lottery anyways. Just like I still want to see the Stars un-clinch their playoff spot somehow, go to the playoffs anyways, make the conference finals, then get the 2nd pick in the lottery so the Flames can pick 1 and 2.
Do fans always have to be rational?

I'd be ok with Dubois anyway.
Plus with all the 2nd round picks (depending on what happens with the Dallas pick) I can see Treliving work some magic to move up if he wants to. We'll be fine.

There are a few inaccuracies in this post.
The odds of drafting top 3 if they Flames finish:
4th: 29%
5th: 26.3%
6th: 23.5%
Roughly the same? I dunno.
Finishing 6th we'd have a 58.9% chance of drafting outside the top 6.
Finishing 5th we'd have a 29.2% chance of drafting outside the top 6.
Finishing 4th we'd have a 7.4% chance of drafting outside the top 6.
Saying we're less likely to move down is kind of sugar coating it because sure we're less likely to move down, but our expected draft position is still much worse overall.
Anyways it is what it is, big blow to the draft odds. Let's not try and exaggerate and pretend it didn't change the odds at all or that it's somehow better, because that is misleading.

Doubt they're going to get dubois if they finish 5th or 6th and likely pick 6-8. Probably more likely nylander or a dman.
Can always hope for the lottery to finally help

If there is any hockey karma, Flames will win the draft lottery, and we'll look back to the reason why we won was because we beat the tar out of the stinkin' Oilers and Canucks the last two games.

You can really see what made him have offensive success at forward in Pittsburgh (he played RW there). His wrister in tight might be the best on this team among right handed shots.
